Ascended Materials Gathering Changes
I have 37 Bloodstone Bricks and 14 Empyreal Stars. 0 Dragonite Ore. I’ve just been destroying my excess Bloodstone Dust at this point.
However, I’m not really worried about these materials. I’m far more concerned with the fact it costs nearly 14 gold to make one bolt of Damask, while it only costs 2 gold to make a Spool of Elonian Cord and Spiritwood Planks. Deldrimor Steel Ingots are only 4 gold to make. The other materials are far, far cheaper than Damask, and this needs to be addressed some how. At this point, its going to cost nearly 200 gold just to make a cloth chest piece. I haven’t calculated what the other pieces cost yet, but I’ve decided that ascended cloth gear is just not worth the investment for how little return you get.
I deeply regret having leveled my tailoring to 500 now, and I wish I could get a refund and set my skill level back to 400.

It is mostly split between areas of the game, dragonite are more often dropped in world bosses chests.
So if you’re someone that is doing wvw whole day and get empyreal mats you will need to go do something else to get the other mats.
TL’DR its to force you doing something else in the game from what you’re doing currently.
Ahh, another one of these threads. Fun stuff.
The reason that anet decided to make these items acquirable in such different areas is so people go out and play other areas of the game that they aren’t necessarily comfortable doing. It would be nice to be able to trade one for the other, but right now it’s working as intended.
EDIT: And I now see this thread was slightly necro’d.
If you do Jormag and Shatterer (world bosses) twice a day with different chars – that’s probably all you’d be lucky enough to fit in, you should get around 80 dragonite a day. They are the common ones but folks do others eg Maw and SB only give about 3-4 each. I have one char with all ascended armour and 4 ascended weapons and another with 2 ascended weapons and 3 armour so far. It’s a lot of hard work. I make sure that I make all those mats that can be made only once a day every day. Also I sell a bit of damask and a few others and I reckon I have spent about a nett of 100g

I doubt the “select a reward” for the materials will happen, but I do like the idea of a forge recipe to convert materials (or at LEAST convert Bloostone Dust into something more useful than the consumables they have released so far).
