Ascended armor this year?
Noone got an answer?
Anet said yes. Only source there is that I know of is in the “upcoming changes and features” wiki page. Coming in the “second half of 2013”. That’s all I know.
I honestly don’t think it’s a good idea. If its anything close to as time consuming as making an ascended weapon, imagine making 6 pieces. And that’s assuming you play only one character with only one armor set. It would be ridiculously time consuming and a big turn off grinding that much.
EDIT: If they roll the ascended armor out one piece at a time, it MIGHT work out alright as far as grinding. Would definitely feel bad for newcomers in a few months after they all come out, though

Yep it is confirmed to be coming this year according the to July blog post. It will probably come in November if I had to guess. By that point people will be done with all their ascended weapons and bored again.
I have crafted 2 ascended weapons, and will soon have a third. I won’t be worried if armor crafting piece by piece requires a similar crafting process. You don’t have to be a hardcore player to get this stuff IMHO.
I must say however, the new players will find the grind hard to endure, as the older players already have most of the mats saved up beforehand. Starting with little or no mats will suck.
I have crafted one legendary and I’m on my second now. I also have crafted an ascended weapon. I am really looking forward to ascended armor. I have started saving silk, gossamer and leather for it. The thing is, you don’t NEED exotic/ascended armor to play the game, or participate in dungeons or WvW. You can still complete those with rares and underleveled characters. The ascended gear is for the players who spend a lot of time on GW2 and already have either the mats or the gold and want the gear.
They have been really slow in rolling out the ascended stuff so to not completely disrupt the game. First it was just available through fractles, then laurels, now crafting weapons. I don’t think that it will upset the balance of the game too much.

15 temple events and 25 dungeons isn’t hardcore? Ya you can do it overtime, but I sure don’t want to do 15 temples and 25 dungeons per piece of freaking armor.

Let me now laugh at this sentence very long and hard. Just getting your craft (one, not all 3) up to level 500 requires some serious farming – even if you played from the very beginning, casual gameplay won’t get you enough mats for it. Then, you have to get lot of mats again for deldrimor/spiritwood (or blow a lot of cash on those), do over 20 temple/world boss events, and 25 dungeons. And kill over thirty champions. To craft one weapon.
Just how it is not hardcore?

It just takes time and if you don’t have what you need after that then that’s your own fault. Not trying to be rude.
You can most definitely get 500 in a craft through casual play. It’s a matter of time. The hardest part is the various kinds of play you have to do. People cry about grinding but that’s actually easy because you just repeat the same thing over and over. This is nothing like that.

Ascended weapons aren’t “hard” to get but can be quite time consuming. But thinking about all the grinding one would have to do to get six pieces of ascended armor can sound a tad overwhelming if its anything like crafting the weapons.
Hopefully it will be easier to craft the armor since it will just be a stat increase whereas the weapons are a higher base damage, as well.

Is there some limit to how fast you have to do this i’m not aware of? First off you can do 15 world events (not sure why you would only do temples when all world events give shards) in about 45 minutes, not really what I’d call even super casual, let alone hardcore.
Dungeons I agree are a little more work. If you do Cof 1/2 twice a day though it only takes 45 minutes for 6 days to get enough shards… not even a week of playing 45 minutes a day plus one day of an additional 45 minutes… Oh boy the shock and horror of the “hardcoreness” is overwhelming lol.
If Anet can screw up the game by adding ascended weapons then surely they can make the same mistake twice by adding ascended armour.

It is coming. This much we know.
When it does come, my only question really is will some the hard to produce ascended material required be the same ones required for the weapons? ie Mithillium (I can image yes to this), Spirit Residue (Not to sure there is a logical place for wood in armor making) or Thick Elonian Cord (a possible imo).
If so it would be nice to know what to stock up with. Also will Bloodstone, Dragonite and Empyreal Stars be used? I hope so.
I am looking forward to ascened armors, I skipped the weapons because I rather use the mats for legendaries.

Well, yes, both doing 15 world events within 45 minutes and doing 4 dungeon paths daily is definitely a hardcore behaviour.
Basically, if you are actively farming the mats, then you have already moved past casual behaviour.

15 temple events and 25 dungeons is not hardcore if do it over time, like you said. The entire point of ascended items is that they are acquired slowly over time if one works on them with the resources they acquire through regular play (that means without being gifted tons of mats/gold by friend and guild or using gems->gold).
Ascended items are supposed to be a medium-to-long term goal of max level players, sitting inbetween the full exotic set (takes a few days to weeks) and the legendary (supposed to take ya months to a year or longer). Of course driven and hardcore players will pervert this design goal by using the shortcuts and slaving away in the farm train but if a new player that does play regularly only completes a set of ascended weapons/trinkets/armor after playing at the level cap for half a year or longer, then mission accomplished.
Also, if you come from other games, keep in mind that Anet doesnt want a power treadmill and if possible wants ascended to be the tier that stands the test of time and is still viable in a few years. Given that, I’m also glad that getting my off-spec sets and outfitting my other characters isnt a goal for 6 weeks, but instead one for months or years.

ascended and legendary weapons dont have that much mats in common.

Ascended needs 500 on crafting(legendary need 400 on two professions), so that may burn quite a bit of t6 materials to get there.
Also, for some people blow their karma pre-nerf, o. shards may now be a very limited resource to them, especially when legendary require an uncertain amount of those.
ps. 15 meta within 45min is a bit over the top, I would say beyond hardcore, may even need to hop servers to accomplish that. On a good day with all events aligned, 6 meta in a bit over an hour is best I got, and I skipped all pre-events(which can take 5~20 min to complete)and only go for the one with chest.
15 temple events and 25 dungeons is not hardcore if do it over time, like you said.
But then it goes extremely slow. We’re talking a few-months-per-piece slow. If ascended armor pieces will require similar amount of mats, that might be a year or two of casual gameplay. And in that time, unless some big design changes happen again, something better will be introduced.
If you hope to gain the gear in any reasonable time frame, it will require getting beyond casual gameplay.

Raising the crafts to 500 is going to eat into your t6 mats reserves quite significantly.

Karma trains in WvW is the best way I guess while on Karma Boost buff.

Don’t forget that ascended weapon (boxes) can also drop wherever the materials can be gathered, and are account bound (in case your current character cannot use the stats). My wife had one drop in WvW from a camp supervisor (Assassin — not terrible for thief shortbow), and she’s only leveled her Huntsman to possibly 415. If you’re in a rush, then that’s obviously not the best way to obtain one, but if you’re just a casual player, then immediately requiring a minimal stat-increase shouldn’t really matter anyways.

I used t6 snowflakes to craft givers inscriptions to level to 500.
You also dont need to craft more than 10 exotic weapons to reach 500.
50 t6 mats out of 2000 is 2.5%.

Yes, snowflakes, karka shells and charged crystals (that one is definitely the cheapest but longest) are an option, that’s true.
(and it took me a bit more than 10 weapons – not sure how much, but i do remember it was 9 weapons – each with discovery bonus – to get from 477 to 500)

I expect to be the first among my friends to have an Ascended weapon, and I would be surprised if I get it done in less than 3-4 months at the rate I am going, by which point armor will almost certainly be out as well. If I manage to get one character outfitted with Ascended gear in a year, I will be fairly surprised, so I hope they don’t have another, even more difficult to make tier, in a year or two. If so, I’ll just give up and use sets of Exotics with specialized sigils/runes and swap them out depending on what is going on and hope that suffices.
Why is everyone speculating that there will be some new tier of weapons and armor?
First off, this isn’t a tier that is being added to the game, it is something we already have (accessories, rings…..). They are just raising the tier of weapons and armor so that everything you have on you will be ascended.
There has been no talk at all that I can remember about adding another tier. Besides, why would anet add another tier in a year when we are barely out of the gates on asc. weapons and probably won’t see asc. armor for a couple months.
I play 1-3 hours a night. I do 3-5 boss events at most, run 1-3 dungeons and do a few jumping puzzles a night. I have everything but enough fragments to make my first weapon. I call that pretty casual and it didn’t take me very long to do.
Everyone needs to settle down and play the game. This stuff will come in time as you play the game. Do we all really even need a 2% bump in stats anyway? Is that really gaining you anything worth complaining about?
