If I transmute the ascended back piece to a level 80 back piece, Will the infusion slot become a normal upgradable slot?

I think im wishful thinking here.

If I were you I wouldnt event want to try transmuting it since it is likely what you say would happen. that is if you can transmute them at all.

You can try it and not click confirm/accept to see what you can keep.

It won’t. It will keep the infusion slot unless you transmute exotic stats onto it. Also if you haven’t infused it you won’t be able to if you transmute it.
