Q:
Auto Upgrade to Ascended
Only an AN dev can answer this fully but personally I doubt it. Those items are simply gold sinks, legendary items need tens to hundreds fo hours farming karma, badges of honour, dungeon etc. One of the major reasons for introducing ascended gear was the gap between exotics and legendaries in time to get.
As such, I expect current exotics to remain exotic and expect new skins with infusion slots for ascended gear.
Don’t think so. My main reason behind this is pretty simple, they’re not legendaries even if they’re difficult to make.
so legendaries will retain their purple text, just the stats are raised, correct?
The Legendaries will be boosted to match Ascended gear, not exceed (source). And the other weapons are not legendary, and therefore are most likely not part of that automatic upgrade.
yeah, vick that’s what i was asking. if legendaries are top-shelf, then it makes sense for them to keep their purple text and have their stats raised.
when the ascended weapons come out, will their stats land between current exotics and legendaries?
that brings more questions, because if current legendaries are raised to only MATCH ascended stats, then when ascended weapons come out, they will be equal. but lindsey has stated that ascended is meant to fit in the gap between exotics and legendaries, so that would mean legendaries would get another boost in stats?

The match the gap was in reference to the difficulty in obtaining the item, it was a statement about progression (or rarity) and not stats.
Legendaries are not higher stats now than exotics.
kiba, I think you may be reading too far into what ANet means by “best-in-slot.”
Right now, exotic-level stats are best-in-slot. Legendaries match exotics stat-wise.
When they’re implemented, Ascended-level stats will be best-in-slot, so Legendaries will match that tier.
By saying that Legendaries are intended to be best-in-slot, I believe ANet means that they will have equivalent stats to the highest-tier weapons in the game, not that Legendaries will be one tier higher. So, Ascended weapons and Legendary weapons will both be the best-in-slot weapon choices, as they will be equal stats-wise.
ah thanks for clarifying. so when a higher tier is introduced, legendaries are bumped up to match the BIS…
and i see now that it’s not a stat thing, but a time sink. ascended is meant to be a gap filler between exotic and legendary in terms of time spent. the increased stats are a byproduct then. which to me doesn’t make sense if gw2 wasn’t meant to have a gear grind/power creep.

exactly, that’s why many people are upset. I understand there’s a huge PvE crowd playing the game and wants some ways to “progress” in game, but there are many that switched to this game with the idea that gear grind will not be part of the game design.
