I was reading the
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/dyes-in-the-new-account-wardrobe/ post and I noticed following :

“With dyes becoming account unlocks, the demand for dye will decrease and unidentified dyes will no longer drop as loot but will still be available from the Mystic Forge and select in-game rewards.”

How will this affect to crafting Bitfrost as the Gift of Color requires 250 unidentified dyes? Will the recipe change or ?

I doubt the recipe will change, otherwise they would have simply taken out the Unidentified Dye altogether.

Unless the ‘select ingame rewards’ give a lot of unid dyes it sounds like the main source will be through crafting. As I understand the mystic forge, it destroys 4 dyes to give you one and is not an true source of unid dyes.

The only recipe I could find for Unidentified Dyes is for PvP, which can’t be used to craft the Gift of Color.

Neither ones the mystic forge, which gives out pvp account bound dyes.

Main source appears to be from laurels (and black lion chests/gemstore)

Ow. That’s even worse than I thought. I was thinking you could craft unid dyes. Laurels is a pretty restrictive way to get them, especially for those of us still struggling to get ascended trinkets, and ascended gear, on all out alts.

They should just change the requirement of 250 unidentified dyes with 250 piles of putrid dust

The MF recipe is for PvP, you can still get Unidentified Dye from throwing random dyes into the MF, but it’s a pure gamble.

I’m very unsupportive of this ‘Preview’ for this sole reason. I actually love the changes that they came up with except the changes with unidentified dyes. They already jumped from 37s to 60s and I only needed the gift of colour to make The Bifrost. I mean this isn’t going to make getting it that much harder but it just means I have to do twice the work.

But I fear for people who want to make The Bifrost in the future, the price is only going to go up.

It gonna tank, once everybody gets unidentified dyes refunded for duplicate dyes on different chars.

When the patch goes live, the price of UID dyes will plummet…not rise. You do understand that EVERY duplicated dye will be turned into a UID dye…the market will be flooded with them (I estimate my 8 characters will get between 20 and 30 UIDs when the patch goes live).

true, the market will be flooded right after the patch, but once all those dyes are sold, the price will climb back up since no more unid’d dyes will be dropping.

Most of those will get turned into identified dyes very shortly, as people will rush to unlock what they can on their accounts. Within few days of the patch all that unid dye surplus will be gone. And there will be very few new ones.

What could very well happen:
-People will dump their excess unid dyes on patch day
-Other people will consume them
-Speculators will put buy orders, keeping a price floor in effect
= resulting in little price change in dyes

UIDed dyes have other sources than just drops, but I’m guessing rather than changing the Legendary the recipe, they will reintroduce UID dye drops if they become uber-rare.

Maybe in the long run, but that first DUMP will plummet the price for at least a few days. There are a lot more people that will sell most UIDs for some quick $ than open them ALL up.

Yeah, just like they adjusted drops of Silver Doubloons, when they came über-rare.
Or did they change the recipe for Vial of Quicksilver? I cant remember…..

LAWL at people suggesting bifrost dyes will cost alot … has anyone actually taken the time to figure out how many unid’s they are going to get on patch day? TO think about how many unid dyes others might have? How many that might mean get dumped on patch day? I didn’t think so.

Unidentified dyes will collapse on patch day and will stay low for a while. They will slowly rise though as the supply gets used since the creation rate will most likely be less than the usage rate.

Depending on the rate of creation, I can definitely see them eventually reaching 1g each.

nothing says UNID dyes disappearing from drops will be permanent. They may just wait till the new excess inventory clears then turn them back on.

I think that prices will collapse immediately after the patch, stay low for a period of time (might be weeks), and then slowly start to rise until it reaches a new equilibrium somewhere between 50s – 1 gold. At those prices, more people will start crafting dyes through Cooking, which is where the bulk of new coloured dyes will come from. Unid’ed dyes will be sought after primarily by players trying to craft the Gift of Colour.

Just saying it’s an option (not that they will use it). I agree that Silver Doubloons are an issue ANet has dropped the ball on. I quit doing LA chest runs with my LVL 20 (made just for that purpose) back during Wintersday, but prior to that, I was under the impression (no scientific evidence, mind you) that the drop rate (at least from chests) had gone down. I also purchased a few stacks of loot bags and got VERY poor results.

Needless to say, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that this scenario will play out the same way (tho there ARE other uses for UID dyes and that may make it even worse).

The spike on patch day won’t be as big as many think. I think many are going to ID them hoping to get lucky. Plus any spectator with an IQ not in the double digits will know that with out them coming from loot drops you can easily squeeze the market for the long haul.

Set a low buy price on patch day and buy as many as you can.

Based on my circle of friends, 100 unid’s per currently active player is a conservative estimate for the spike that’s going to happen on patch day. If that’s not a big spike of supply, then nothing is.

True, most people will likely convert to get the rares they couldn’t afford prepatch but unid dyes are still going to go down in price … prices that more than reasonable for those wanting to craft Bifrost; there is a segment of the population that will take advantage of the tolerable sell prices for unids after patch day. Perhaps that price won’t be reasonable for people that want to gamble with dyes. That’s OK … market is going to flood with those too.

Also, Anet mentioned other ways to get unids as rewards and based on the idea that Legendaries aren’t something you craft in a day, I don’t suspect many people will take their time to earn them this way as well. It will be a balanced situation. They won’t be cheap but they won’t be worthless either. The trick will be to guess their steady state value.
