Blade Shards drop from the Sprocket node
Good news! Here I was, thinking i wont get enough blade shards over the course of 4 weeks…

Heh, yeah. If ANet doesn’t make them sellable, it’s just going to turn into an annoyance. “Oh yay, a Blade Shard. An extra item to have to delete from my inventory…”

The game has to be balanced between catering towards hardcore players and casuals. The casual might have a hard time earning those ~900 shards for an ascended backpack while the hardcore player will have plenty more stacks than he needs.

Easy to balance this by making more items like this be available on the TP.

As someone with lots of gold i would love to buy this stuff on the tp instead of farming it. However, the point of making those mats account bound is to exactly prevent people just buying those rewards without achieving anything in game.
The decision was made not to punish the sellers but the buyers.

Yeah, I can see why they did it. Still, I think it wasn’t really necessary to make the Sprocket node drop them though. From my guildies experience, it gives way too little per day for it to really make a difference (in a reasonable timeframe) for someone who really wants the backpiece. Such a player would be better served by hardcore Aetherblade farming.
Aetherblades can be found in EotM, the Not So Secret JP, and in the TA Aetherpath. Perhaps they could have encouraged people to do the Aetherpath more by making the chests unlocked by Aetherkeys at the end each give out 5 – 20 Blade Shards.
I got 2 from my 3 strikes last night. I just hope that they have a use besides the back items (in a reasonable amount). If we could trade them to the same vendor that takes the belongings (or whatever you can get oby shards/sprockets/level tomes from) I think most people would be happy.
You could also farm the Aetherblades in the “Not So Secret” JP after the LS ends.

2 from my 3 strikes last night too. Seems like it’s a fairly high drop rate.
