so i was looking though my crafting recipes to see the things i could craft and sell though i noticed that i could craft ~ Gift of Blades ~ with blade shards.

Blade Shards: 250
Elonian Leather Square: 15
Pile of Crystalline Dust: 10
Watchwork Mechanism: 1

i guess that’s why they didn’t want us to delete them, i’m sure more recipes will involve blade shards being a part of it.

well, yeah, you need that gift of blades to make your exotic backpack into an ascended one. but that’s not why thy told us to keep the shards. We keep the shards to turn in to some future merchant for some unknown loot.

Gift of Blades is just one part of the upgrading process of the blade backpiece (and has been in the game since day one of the LA living story part). So far that backpiece is the only thing that requires blade shards.
Whatever Anet meant when they told us to keep shards was definitely something else.

You actually also need blade shards to promote blade shards from watchwork sprockets in the mystic forge, so the backpack isnt the only recipe that requires them but the only one that consumes them.

Its the only crafting recipe right now that needs blade shards but as already mentioned, there are several forge recipes (blade and backpiece promotion) that require it.
