So the reason I avoid crafting is because one, you would need two characters. Your main would never craft their own armor or weapons or what ever because by the time you get the stuff, unless you buy it all like some people do, the gear you make is useless to what you could buy from a karma vendor.

So with that said you would usually have two characters, one that masters crafting to craft for all others.

My question is – how good can you get? How good of armor or weapons can I create? If I maxed everything out would I be able to go as high as exotic? some part of me is saying no……but would you ever deck a character out with crafted stuff or is it better to just run dungeons?

“So the reason I avoid crafting is because one, you would need two characters”

???

Your rationale is bogus. You don’t need two characters.

Hell, you know you get 10 levels by maxing one profession? If you’re a new player, that’s exactly a reason to get dedicated to one character and crafting on one player.

You can craft exotics, but it won’t be cheap. You’re better off running around in Orr with a full rare MF set, and then collecting karma to easily buy off legendaries from vendors. Or buy exotics from the TP.

I think you don’t get how it works- of course you can craft you own stuff on your main- I did it as I leveled her.
I wear my own crafted exotics so yes you can absolutely craft your own- I collected the mats over time and it did take long but didn’t cost me all that much.
I craft on all my alts too and have 3 professions at 400 at the moment.
Crafting gives great xp and it is very useful indeed for keeping your characters geared- I can mostly make better stuff than anything you can get with karma while leveling- at 80 though it is all about stats and some combinations can’t be crafted.

I’m not going to argue you some of your points, rather just answer your question.

You can craft gear that will be equally as good as dungeon gear, WvW gear, karma gear, etc. Anet wants you to have several different ways to be able to get end game gear. Sometimes there are different stats, but the values of stats and the armor will be the same.

Also, the main thing is looks. Some people think the crafted exotic gear (yes you can craft exotic) look bad compared to dungeon gear.

On my level 35 Ranger, I just crafted a great level 35 masterwork Longbow with Huntsman, and level 35 Amulet and 2 Rings with Jeweling.

So, yes, you can craft for yourself as you go along.

Check out guildhead.com → Items → Recipes to see what you can get from crafting.

And yes, you can craft Exotics once you have level 400 in a craft.

Cheers.

Because crafting is so good to gain levels and skip the terrible areas of the game, you can buy most crafted gear for levels 1-79 for slightly over the vendor price.

So craft if you find it fun, or if you want the XP, but not if you want to have decent gear; for that you should just buy it.

Yes, you can craft Exotic Armor (& exotic weapons). The aspect to pay attention to would be the Stats that you want for exotic gear & weapons. This might help: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/List_of_armor_sets

I wanted Power, Toughness, and Vitality for my rank 80 gear, and I was able to get many pieces from different karma vendors in Orr (one Orr vendor will have all 6 pieces, but not all of the pieces from that one vendor have the same stats) and the rest of the pieces that were not available from karma vendors in Orr from Ascalonian Catacombs dungeon runs to get tokens to buy from Dungeon armor vendor in LA.

Pick you goal of stats, then search for who has them with wiki (Orr karma vendor & dungeon set that has those stats).

I’d been using Knight Orichalcum Imbued weapons I crafted, but eventually I might do AC dungeons enough times for weapons with Power, Toughness, and Vitality. I’m in no hurry to do it yet. Knight weapons are ok for now. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orichalcum_Imbued_Inscription

I’d been using crating to more quickly level up my alts that i wanted to have for various reasons including and not limited to, freshen up the gameplay for myself and a class that blends well with the guild group I’m running around with. I’ve got access to all max level crafting professions across with my characters. Most recently finished up Leatherworking, merely for the achievement of doing all crafting professions and not that I wanted to use anything the profession creates. Some professions are more expensive than others to get to rank 400, with all the materials you buy from vendor (cooking materials that don’t drop in world; tailor, leatherworking, armorsmith threads), which is why using a crafting experience booster helps after you’ve gotten enough materials to sit and level up that crafting for an hour of the boost duration. There are crafting guides out there on the net that have good tips. good luck.

_edit: once you get the stats you want per gear pieces, then hunt down the style and use them fine transmutation stones. refine stats via Skill Traits, etc etc
