Also if you change the sigil, as long as I put the original back at the time for forging everything should be ok right?

If you wield it or change the sigil it will become soulbound. But I dont think you need to change the sigil back to the original when forging a legendary.

To my understanding, it doesn’t matter if the weapon is soulbound, has a different sigil or what have you, as long as it’s got the name is can be used. Not sure about transmuting for different stats though, it may require it to be the starting stats + name.

Transmuting creates a new item with the same name, and thus transmuted precursors will not work for crafting legendaries. Changing sigil and soulbinding the precursor is fine, however.
