Cheapest Crafting Profession for Ectoplasm..
It would have to be tailoring or leatherworking as silk/leather is pretty cheap.
Yep yep. Tailoring/Leatherworking. Just awhile ago I bought over 1000 silk scraps for just above a gold. If you make gloves, you only need silk. No leather. Just silk, silk thread, and some t5 materials. Don’t forget to put out buy orders on the t5 mats. It can make them a decent amount cheaper.
Headpieces/shoulders in tailoring are the cheapest, you can craft them for ~22s each.
Thanks for the replies guys! So tailoring it is..
I was just going to ask this question, thanks!
So I just leveled tailoring to 400 but now when I do the math it doesn’t add up?
Explorer’s Masquerade Gloves for example >> http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/2372
It costs 29 silver to craft it, and yet ectos sell for roughly that (just checked an it’s up to 34 silver now).
Wouldn’t it be better to out right by the ectos even if your paying 5 silver extra? Like this your guaranteed you’ll get the ecto as opposed to a 80% chance?
Anyone what to shed some light on this? Did I just waist 7 gold on leveling up a craft that I don’t use?
When you salvage a gold item there is chance that you will get more than one ecto per item. Therefore, if you get two you doubled your money. Best I have done is three ectos from one item. I have heard that folks have got as many as four.

PS. There is that chance you won’t get ANY ectos as well.
You can net 0-3 on salvaging a rare, regardless the average is a 80% return in total. My friend did this with 100 rare daggers he crafted and get got back 83 ectos.
My assumption was that crafting the rares were cost efficient to gamble the with the 80%. But according to my findings in my post above it doesn’t see that way.

The average rate being report on the forums based on a large sample size (still not large enough) is that mystic/master kits give a 90% chance.
If those gloves are 29s they aren’t worth it. I made a little bit of money buy making some leather shoulderpads for around 21s and salvaging. Thankfully I got a 137.5% return rate.
