Cheapest Dagger Lv80 Craft / Precursor types.

4 daggers will yield a random dagger back if you throw in 4 rares you can get another rare or a chance at an exotic or precursor.
I would craft rares and use them in my opinion but with RNG you never know what will happen…
But to get the Spark I need to throw in daggers right??

If you throw in nothing but 4 daggers, you’re guaranteed a Dagger-Weapon back (of Rare or maybe Exotic-type, including precursor).
But if it’s 3 daggers, 1 bow, you’d get something random.
It’s recommended you just throw in 4 rare daggers, and repeat.
I hope you have better luck than me;
Throw in 4 rare great swords and get back 1 great sword of lesser value
Throw in 4 rare swords, get back 1 rare sword of the same type
Throw in 4 rare daggers, get back 1 rate dagger of the same type
Throw in 4 rare short bows, get back 1 short bow of the same type
I think the Mystic Forge hates me!
But now should I take my chances with my 100G to spend on daggers and try forging the Spark or should I save an crazy long time to get to 500G and buy the Spark straight up… Not sure whats better or what the odds are

They’re no odds really, just RNG. I’ve got precursors from the forge, I’ve also lost a lot of gold from it too.
Best thing to do is just save your gold and buy it.
Heavens Rage
I have been unlucky in this game from day one. Over this past weekend I needed (2) uses of the mystic forge to complete my daily. I bought (8) exotic daggers and threw them in the forge. On the second pull I got “Spark”. I was extremely shocked. Last week I threw (4) random rares in the forge and got “Venom”. Over the last several months a guild mate of mine as throw hundreds of rares and exotic in the forge and gotten nothing. I’m not trying to brag, but instead trying to show that RNG is RNG. They do drop from the forge.
Another option is to just throw in the cheapest random rares/exotics that you can find in the hopes of getting ANY precursor. Then you can just sell that and with the money you can buy the one that you really want.
The biggest downside to this is that you might get one of the “undesirable” precursors that are way cheaper than the others. You are still gonna get 100g+ though, so it’s not a bad option.
before you go about doing this, pay attention to the price of the precursor. Is Spark one of the most expensive?
If you can make 100g more by forging, say staves to get The Legend, then it’s better off gambling that.

IIRC the base % chance of an upgrade (i.e. 4 RARE daggers returning 1 EXO dagger) is 20%.
What you need to remember, above all else, is that 20% is your long-term EV (expected value). In the short term (less than, lets say, 200 combines) anything is possible however. I have had recorded instances of combining 4 masterwork items 28 times in a row without upgrade.
The problem with using the MF for a precursor lies in the fallacy of EV and long-term results. Most players simply don’t have the gold to combine enough times to see the 20%. A very few run well over EV and some run under EV. They are the ones you see making posts about “I combined over 2,000 rares without getting my precursor”.

2,000 rares without seeing a precursor is not, in fact, all that uncommon. I have a recorded streak of over 7,000 rares fed to the forge without seeing a precursor (and that is not counting the rares that popped out of the forge and immediately recycled back in).
Precursors are really that rare, and the RNG gods are fickle. Do not play the forge game for precursors if you can’t afford to lose hundreds of gold without seeing a result.
So ur saying im better off saving my 200g to get to 550g for a spark rather then Forging it away?

Up to you my friend, think of the risk reward factor, either you see yourself back, or you get a spark and finish your legendary.
My personal experience and my terrible luck,, I’d save up. I was going for twilight, saved up about 300g, was gonna buy lodestones and runestones, and maybe some t6 mats to try to finish up some of the gifts, but instead I played the mystic forge praying to the rng gods for a precursor. 300g later nothing, setting myself back, so I gave up. Nobody to blame but myself haha

I sure am glad I could care less about the useless Legendary weapons.
