I just recently started to be interested in ascended gear. I leveled my armorsmith to 500 and crafted two ascended weapons.

Farming for mats for the ascended crafting itself wasn’t a big deal since you can simply get to an area associated with the level of resource node you need. To make things even better, I found some useful maps with paths you can follow to run through areas that have an high amount of a set resource node:

http://pwniversity.com/guide/gw2-seasoned-wood-log-farming/
http://pwniversity.com/guide/gw2-hard-wood-log-farming/

Getting enough mats wasn’t a big deal thanks to those maps, to the fact that nodes are guaranteed and to the fact that while I was farming the mats I actually had fun following the path and doing events along the way.

Now comes the problem with cloth and leather. Since they don’t have resource nodes they’re quite hard to find.
I found that you can get a lot of Linen Scraps in Iron Marches just by doing Flame Legion related events and killing flame legions moving from an event to another: they drop bags and frayed garments that both give linen. So farming them was quick and fun since I love dynamic events.

Now, are there maps with mobs that can give you both salvageable items and bags that contain the other materials I need, namely Wool Scraps, Cotton Scraps, Thin Leather Section, Coarse Leather Section and Rugged Leather Section?

Yes, there are. Rugged Leather is the same maps as Linen, Cotton and Coarse is in lower lvl maps than Rugged and Linen, and Thin Leather/Wool is in lower lvl maps than Cotton and Coarse.

I get a fair bit of Rugged and Linen from the Flame Legion in Iron Marches, and from the Pirates/Risen in Bloodtide Coast.

For T2/T3 cloth and especially leather, I’ve heard that the Ulgoth chain is an excellent source of bags and salvageable items.

Ulgoth is great for t3 but not that good for t2.

Hmm… Perhaps go down one map and do all the centaur events near the Ascalon Settlement in Gendarran Fields then? Same strategy and quick respawning events. Pay a visit to the nearby pirates too for a break.

Easiest way I know of to get cloth and leather is to buy cheap low-rarity armour from the TP at whatever level salvages to the cloth (light armour) or leather (medium armour) that you need.

For example, if you want Coarse Leather Sections, you salvage medium armour with a level rating between 31 and 50. Occasionally you’ll end up with Thin Leather (generally salvages from 16-33) or Rugged Leather (generally from 46-63) so medium armour between level 34 and 45 is your best bet.

There are also various straps and hides that would salvage down into the leather you’re after, or garments and rags that salvage for the cloth.

If you grab blues or greens, you can also increase your account luck while your at it, by whites are your bet bet for cheap materials because people havn’t pushed the prices up quite so far trying for luck.

Keep in mind the promotion recipes from the Mystic Flusher as they can help get rid of excess lower Tier materials you accumulate for higher Tier items you can use.

They need to add demotion recipes to the game…..

Just south of the Vigil HQ are tunnels full of dredge. Their bags give out lots of thin leather and 1% of the time a silver doubloon. Depending on your world heading down there to collect Black Lion Supply chests and clearing out the tunnels can be a good way to kill five minutes. Then of course you can head to the other side of Gendarran fields in the hopes that Nebo Terrace has fallen.
