[Cooking] Karma recipes feel pointless/inferior

One element that you don’t include in your write up is the length of time that the karma recipe foods last for. I know, for example, that Eda’s Apple Pie lasts for an hour. FAR more than the cheaper equivalents.
They all require different items to craft.
Variety is the spice of life, or in this case, Cooking.
These recipes help provide useful buffs, but allow for a more diverse ingredient base. Plus it adds more flavor to the world. I swear these puns are not intentional.

Hmm, maybe that’s what’s supposed to make them desirable? I didn’t look at that, you’re right. I dunno … karma is valuable. I’m not sure a longer buff warrants the cost for me.
However, some of ’em are just plain inferior, like some of the stews. Really not seeing the point of those, and hoping those buffs are incorrect.
EDIT: @Ozymandias: Yes, but I don’t find the different items the karma recipes require are in general easier to come by than the regular recipes. Some like the apples for the apple pie are karma items themselves.

nudge Just trying to get a few more opinions on this. More that I’m missing besides duration?

In addition to what’s already been pointed out the level requirements are different. I found that the watery mushroom soup recipe produced better level 10 food for fewer ingredients than any of the “free” recipes. That being said, some recipes aren’t that great and are more there for flavor than utility.
Oh and 10% versus a flat +10 does make a difference if you’re getting more than 100 xp per kill.
I see ingredients that can be bought with karma as a benefit. You can’t buy your profession training books with karma or spend it on the TP, and I have an easier time accumulating karma than money for some reason.

I am pretty all the +10 instead of +10% are typos. I remember using one of the lower level food that gives +10 but my total xp per kill was only 9.
The other reason I think the +10 is a typo is because +10 is a huge boost at the low end but completely worthless at the high end. It would make sense for them to have effects that will remain useful once people have reach 80 rather than effects that make people rocket through the low levels. Long term versus short term.
A flat +10 is also over 200% at those levels meaning it is 4x better than the gem shop item.
