ok i had a big post written out and i deleted it because it sounded whiny. In sort, where is the best place to farm eggs and butter. Read on if you feel like hearing some of my opinions on cooking, otherwise thanks for the tips on where to farm eggs.
I will add a little whine that cooking in its current state is ridiculous. It was already the most complex craft, the amount of ingredient options is staggering and now that we have to rely on drops its pretty much useless….eggs really?! I have to go out and farm them on purpose now?! How is killing swarms of moa’s rewarding and engaging?
So, before the nerf cooking was easy to level but that did not cut down on its complexity and it was and still is very counter-intuitive. Now its just unfun.
Farm? No, no, no, my good man. You can’t farm in GW2. Dudes in Anet think farming is bad, mmmkey? You just need to play for 89 years and wait for random powerful blood drops once a month to craft that armor.
I get lots of butter from bags that drop (Tiny Bag of Blah Blah Blah, etc), and eggs come from the same things that you get poultry meat from: raptors especially.
Any moas, raptors, griffons and drakes may drop eggs. If you want to farm, it is recommended to choose a starter area because mobs are faster to kill in those zones. However, unless you have a specific reason to kill those moas in the first place then the most convenient option is to use the TP.

When you went to the Master Chef Trainer, did you actually read what he told you, three times ? That it was hard ? Time consuming ? Really hard ? I SAID ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO BE A CHEF ? Like three times ? (yeah, it’s been already twice that I say three times). Three times ? (There we go).
I find it only natural that it’s hard, it was designed this way. And I must say I like it that way. Except for the butter drop rate, but that’s another matter.
Yeah cooking is super useful and very rewarding. In fact, crafting in this game is pretty darn awesome. The discovery system is just…lol. Its almost too good, especially since recipes aren’t exactly hidden thanks to the internets.

Yea i’m none too happy with the farming changes either….what if i like to grind mobs in the same area? I like just killing things and seeing what drops…but, thats for another thread.
Anyway, I committed minor genocide on the moa’s in Frostgorge Sound yesterday. Thinking, hey ill kill level 80 birds so i at least have a shot at some other good stuff dropping besides eggs. I killed probably 75 moa’s in about 20 to 30 minutes(they respawn fast) and got a grand total of one(1) egg. So i just bought them from the trading post while they are still cheep. Guy has to get his omnomberry bar fix somehow right?
I’ve found raptors drop better than Moas, and you get both poultry meat and eggs. I also came across a platypus looking thing that dropped eggs and I can’t remember the exact name. I’ll see if I can find them again. I think they were in the Southern part of Snowden drifts.

Birds drop eggs,
Butter comes from those bags that humanoids drop.
Also some Karma vendors sell butter.
All those items are obtainable.
Anything that lays an egg IRL drops one in-game
I just read this, can’t be bothered to find the player name:
PlayerBog Skales in upper Metrica Province dropped plenty of vials of weak blood pre-cooking patch. Now I can raise a freakin skale farm based off the amount of eggs (cooking item) they drop.
Gonna check that out… Still, I can’t believe ANet changed this awesome craft into yet another grind-fest. This is why I don’t craft… you think you’re having fun, then NERF’D.
I’m drowing in butter and eggs, I don’t know how it’s happened, but I seem to get more of it than any sane person should need. I would gladly trade butter, eggs and jute for materials that I could actually use — tiny claws, shiny scales, little vials of blood, itty bitty shards of bone, but no, they’re practically worthless in comparison on the trading post sigh. Obviously the secret is not to want it – then you shall drown in butter and eggs!!
On a more serious note, I have real suggestion for you. Head to Divinities Reach, walk out of the door go down the small hill (but not across the bridge) make a left, keep walking past the keep (not up to the graveyard or into the keep where the centaurs are). You will find bandits in a cave/dwelling at the bottom of the hill near the keep – it’s slightly hidden it’ll be on the left, clear out the whole thing = butter & other high demand low level crafting mats, then your path for eggs is up to you choose your own adventure style – you can go kill drakes waiting for the shadow behemouth or moa while waiting for the centaur events or simply just roam around getting completionon the map while exploring. I’ve spent hours there and feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of the zone because I usually find at least one new area of event every time I visit (then again, I don’t do this every night – it would probably drive me mad – only once or twice a week).
I see this is a very old conversation, but i’m a new player so whatever ^^
By the time you where talking about this topic i whas brewing potions/poisons in Skyrim. And I have to say that these cooking mechanics are fairly simple compared to the Skyrim alchemie. Ofcourse it’s not just putting flesh on a furnace like in minecraft, but you don’t have a chance of failure, you don’t have a chance to mix a rare item in a crap-potion, you even know how many possibilities there are left!
I just want to say that they did a really good job on the cooking and the other crafts, and that searching for specific ingredients is just (and needs to be!) as challenging as regular events. If they didn’t make these things a kittenallenging you may as wel play runescape.
(and i also have way to few eggs :p)
Eggs drop from lots of creatures; raptors, moas, drakes, skale, griffons. However, their loot tables are always shared with something else, so an egg drop is not guaranteed.
For butter, your best bet is to farm low-level bandits. You get quite a bit of butter from their loot bags.
The area near the ranch in Queensdale is nice for eggs and butter. There are quite a few moas and skales nearby for the eggs and banits nearby for the butter.
I regularly sell of my spare butter on TP. You do realize THAT is an option here….just buy the eggs and butter.
Why do you need a bunch of them anyway? Blindly following a guide that tells you to craft 50 of the same item to raise your crafting isn’t too bright when cooking has literally HUNDREDS of discoveries to make. The wiki page lists EVERY possible recipe to discover by crafting LEVEL.
