Q:
Craft or buy rares for dusk?
A:
80 rare: cheaper to buy off TP (subject to flunctuate)
80 exotic: cheaper to craft
Remember rares are more frequently dropping right now. Most people will salvage them, not put them on the TP. But as this drives down ecto price and assuming Anet don’t change the ecto rate, than there will be more rares on the TP. Thats my interpretation at least.
I say craft. Chance for precursor is quite small, so it will take you quite a lot of rares normally. Took me 130g worth of crafting materials, total about 400++ crafted shortbows. If you think you can get that amount at the minimal TP price in a short period of time, then go ahead, but in the long run, and realistically speaking – just craft it.
I’ve been told that you can use Exotic weapons from Dungeon Tokens to drop into the Forge. That might be the cheaper way if you do speed clears daily.

On the other hand, the token greatswords take 390 tokens, if I recall correctly. For the same number of tokens, you could get 13 pieces of rare armor. Assuming .8 ecto/rare and normal luck (and if you’re unlucky, you should avoid the forge anyway), that’s about 10 ectoplasms. That’s 3g in ectos, ore 2.5g after selling, and I’m certain you can get an exotic for cheaper than that. . .
So, I suppose it depends on how far ectoplasms fall in price, but since buy orders currently start around 1.5g, that would take a bit of a drop. . .
