Craft while I level?
I understand that some of the items needed for legendary items require you to craft them yourself, as they are account bound. Although by the time you’re going after a legendary, I suspect leveling up the needed crafts will be trivial.
To level your crafting without dedicated farming, you’ll have to buy some things from the trading post. I did not find this at all disruptive for my gameplay; I enjoyed making my own equipment for each of my characters. On the other hand, many of the things you can make you can currently buy on the trading post for insultingly low prices; in that context, you may indeed be better of selling the materials you come across on the trading post and using the proceeds to buy your desired goods.
Crafting does give a nontrivial amount of experience as you level up the crafts. I found it to be a nice supplement to exploring the world. Even if you don’t do crafting, make sure you still carry about gathering tools, they’re always worth the investment if you sell the gathered goods on the trading post, plus they give experience, plus they contribute to your daily achievement.
Also, a quick survey of this forum will show that it can be quite difficult to make money via crafting.
Don’t take this post to be too negative though, I really enjoyed leveling up my crafting. I also primarily only play with old friends, so it’s nice for me to be able to make goods for them if they just send the materials over. It was also very nice to have level appropriate gear at all times, especially with the stats I wanted!
You can have two crafting professions active on a character at once. The cost to re-activate one (in the case you have 3, say, and you want to swap one out) is 1 copper per crafting level (so 40 silver to switch to a level 400 craft). So what I did was pick two crafting professions per character.
For your first crafting choices, I do highly recommend the armor of the type your character can wear, and jewelry. The materials for those are largely separate, and you don’t have to make as many things you won’t use to level up (e.g. 6 armor slots, instead of 4 weapon slots).

Hi brand new to the game, my first toon is level 15 and loving the game so far. Basically as I level I find myself piling on lots of goodies for crafters and want to know whether I should be focusing on leveling a craft as I progress or learning there value and sell the goods? How important is it to mess around with crafts? Do they bring anything other then buffs and crafted items? Just a complete noobie at this point looking for some straight answers. Whether its something I can just work on when I hit max level or well worth tinkering with as I go?
Sorry if this is a repeat topic that shows up here.
Crafting gets you 3 things. Experience, potentially cheaper rares/exotics and the ability ty craft a particular Legendaries.
Pretty much all Fine and Masterwork items are going to be cheaper to buy and until you hit 400 you are not likely to make much from crafting(not entirely true depending on how much value karma and some other factors).
Edit: Oh and if you are selling don’t forget to factor in both the listing fee(5%). The projected profit shown on the Trading Post window only factors in the 10% tax.
