Crafting Nightmare
…What? You’d need the bolts of silk to make those, so how did you even “make them by accident”?
Also, all silk stuff are blue I think. It’s to differentiate between the different tiers of cloth, I believe.
I had more than 4,500. I meant, I wasted 4,500.
It really sucks… They need to add more contrast to the menus. Perhaps different color text for refinement and stuff.
They have different names and are in completely different sections.
You cannot make those without BOLTS of SILK so you couldn’t have wasted SILK SCRAPS on those without making BOLTs first…..OP’s story does not remotely sound believable….at all.
BTW, how did you craft 1500 of ANY item (by accident) and not hit cancel after the first few?
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Maybe he did craft the bolts of silk, and while they were crafting (it would take forever to craft that much) he was afk, and wasn’t paying attention. Then his little brother came in, saw the crafting was done, and then proceeded to craft all the silk coat linings. OP comes back and discovers instead of bolts of silk, he now has coat linings, and thinks it was an accident. Meanwhile his little brother is laughing at him while he rages.
This sounds much more plausible than accidently making a bunch of silk coat linings that he needed to bolts of silk for.

Really? Gonna go with the “evil little brother”, defense?
Not sure I care what happened, but I’m 99% sure it didn’t happen like the OP portrayed it.

Not so much of a defense but more of a “there is 0% chance of it happening like you said it did, and you are not telling us everything.”
Either way, I find the “evil little brother” explaination much more humorous :P

They don’t really look so similar that it could easily be mistaken.
Edit: Silk coat linings are also selling for 36c. The buy order is 10c.
I am confused as to what actually happened, and am curious as to the whole story…

Okay, I was frustrated before, so I didn’t explain the story properly.
I bought a bunch of Silk off TP to refine and sell for a higher price. I managed to refine a lot, but in the process, I had bought more. However, instead of refining those Scraps into Bolts, I had accidentally refined Bolts into Coat Linings, since I got mixed up when I saw both allowed me to craft over 1,500 in quantity.
As a result, I used Craft All on the wrong option. Worst thing to come back to after breakfast..
Lesson: Double check before using Craft All.
(If for some reason people think I’m lying, I can screenshot my buy/sell history)

Actually that makes sense…and it sucks. I don’t think you are lying, but the first post gave too much inconsistant information, which lead to that conslusion. After the explaination it seems much more reasonable that that happened. Sorry dude. Hopefully the new crafting UI will help avoid some of those issues for other in the future.

As a “victim” of the Old GUI, I’ll make sure to give an in-depth review of the New GUI

Did you factor in both TP fees what trying to make profit between the disparities of scraps and bolts? I only ask just in case you didn’t know and so you won’t go and take a loss through the TP fees. I believe you need around an 18% mark up from whatever your total costs were to break even.
A lot of items have high volatility so that gap could quickly dissipate and may not be back for awhile if at all.

You mean…
Profit > 15% > Losing Money
Yeah. That’s another way of calculating it. I just figured that using the ~18% mark up would be easier to determine your break even selling price.
Except 18% mark up is already a 3% profit, so it’s misleading.

Actually, it’s not a 3% profit. I’m going off of total cost.
Let’s say that you have an item that costs 6.5 gold to make. At what selling point would you have to price it to break even?
If you take 6.5 and multiply it by 1.1765 you will get 7.6471 gold. You can double check the math by multiplying 7.6471 by 85% which is 6.5. So 7.6471 gold is your break even selling price.
So if you personally have been selling items where the difference between cost and the selling price is less than 17.6471%, you’ve been losing money as you’re ignoring the compounding factor.

Ahh, I see what you meant. Yeah sorry I was thinking inversely.

6.5g / 0.85 = what selling point you can sell at to break even (7g64s71c)
“0.85” is much easier to remember than “1.1765”

Oi, I did that with linen.
Except not coat linings, itwas glove linings.
And it wasn’t 1,500, it was only 80.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.

Yeah but that’s why I said 18% earlier as I can do that math in my head pretty quick.
