So in the looking ahead blog anet mention that crafting precursors will take 500 crafting, a bunch of the ascended materials and some more specific items from different types of content.

Any thoughts on what these specific items could be? Also how many ore/fragments do people have horded and how many do you think will be required?

I’ve got 750 of ea in the bank, planning to get at least 2,000 of ea rofl.

none, you will need to hunt totally new implemented items.

I don’t think you read the blog quite right Shakki.

From the blog:
“Building your precursor will require a large amount of the new crafting material rewards listed above, 500 in crafting, and likely a combination of other items earned for completing more specific content in the game.”

Listed above:
“We’ll also add a new set of account-bound crafting materials to the game. You’ll receive these materials as guaranteed rewards once per day per unique location for completing content within a category of gameplay in Guild Wars 2.

For example, capturing camps, towers, and keeps in WvW will earn you these crafting materials. In the Living World, you can earn them for killing giant world bosses, defeating dungeons, completing jumping puzzles, completing mini-dungeons, finishing some types of guild missions, capturing temples in Orr, and other activities."

These are CLEARLY dragonite ore and empyrael fragments. Here’s a link to the page https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/

So yes, you will need ore/fragments. That’s been confirmed already.

If the materials needed are not done in the same way as the black moa chick scavenger hunt from GW1 then I will be very upset. They would be foolish to not make a precursor crafting/scavenger hunt be once per character, if anyone can craft multiple precursors it will over-inflate the market eventually. People will have 4-5 legendaries on each of their characters eventually and there would be little reason to try putting exotics/rares in the mystic toilet anymore.

I do not mind if it will be a difficult trawl to make or find a precursor so long as people can be guaranteed one and only one through this new process and if you wish to sell legendaries on TP then you need to get lucky via the MF to get more to sell. I really just want them to do it right.

Turial, I think the crafted precursors will be account bound (which I would really like). Instead of putting too many precursors out there (which would be bad) if they are account bound it will just mean people who want it craft it and will lower the demand for the precursors that people got from chests/MF and help reduce their prices.

All that remains is to see how hard/time consuming/gold will be required. Which is what will make the difference.

I think it is most likely that players will be able to craft one precursor per character, or similar. And they hopefully they will be Bind on Use, as they are also using this method to deflate the prices of current precursors.

As for crafting, I’m wondering if the precursors will use the dungeon Gifts in crafting. They mentioned using items that are specific to particular content and this is an existing item that makes sense.

A side note, I think it’s strange that they’re requiring 500 crafting for precursors but made no mention of making them Ascended quality. It doesn’t make much sense to me, logically, that Ascended weapons will be better than precursors and require the same skill level. Bumping Precursors to Ascended may be a good idea.

I’m also curious as t whether or not the Precursors will use a precursor weapon in crafting (such as needing an ascended Greatsword to make Dawn).
