I’ve recently dedicated every ounce of my time and resource into trying to craft the legendary greatsword, Sunrise.

So far, I have 2 out of the 4 components needed to forge such a sword.

I have the greatsword, Dawn.
I have the gift of metal. – 250 Ori Ingots, 250 Mithril Ingots, 250 Platinum Ingots, 250 Darksteel Ingots.

I also need to craft the gift of light.

So far I’ve collected 250 Ori Ingots, 250 Cured Hardened Leather Squares and the 100 Charged Lodestones.

The gift of light also requires a ‘Gift of Ascalon’ which is sold by the merchant in Lion’s Arch for 500 Tears of Ascalon. I’m sure I should be able to do the dungeons required in between my chemo sessions which should take 60 – 70 hours of grinding.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss on what the fourth component might be.

I’ve heard rumors that the fourth slot will require a Bloodstone Shard which is sold by Myani in Lion’s Arch for 200 skill points.

I’ve also heard that you need a Gift of Exploration to craft legendary weapons.

What are your thoughts?

Bloodstone shard is almost certainly a component for the legendary weapons, however it does NOT combine in the mystic forge with Dawn, so it probably has to be used as an ingredient for something else that is used in the final recipe.

That is the big mystery right now, no one is really sure what that item might be.

As a side note… wow you must be really rich to be able to afford all that stuff… how did you get all that money?

I’ve noticed that putting Dawn into the mystic forge makes the ‘Gift of Metal’ gray out as well. This means that it doesn’t combine in the forge.

Not really rich, just dedicated. Really glad that there are things such as legendary weapons for me to work toward.

Gift of Metal, Gift of Light and Dawn is definitely required but maybe it’s not in the mystic forge that will craft it?

The Mystic Forge can be a bit finnicky when it comes to what ingredients show as combinable. I have had combos which grayed out until I put all 4 correct items in and then it shows as a valid recipe.

Wait, for legendaries, do we need just the prereq item in its normal form… or do we need it to be specifically the “Dawn of insert”?

according to that list it has to be the dawn of rage. Although ill admit i havent seen any other weapon named dawn.

Ah… You are going to need A LOT more than that, probably. There is a very interesting topic about Twilight, Sunrise’s twin, here (in GW2Guru). For now, the current consensus is that Twilight requires:

  • The exotic greatsword, Dust
  • Gift of Darkness
  • Something made with the combination of Gift of Battle, Bloodstone Shard, Obsidian Shards x 250 and Gift of Exploration
  • Something made with the combination of Gift of Metal, Mystic Clover, Icy Runestone and one more item

Sunrise will likely require a very similar combination of very hard to acquire items.
