So I was told by someone in LA that he used a crafting booster and it got him to level 80 by crafting. So, I thanked him for the information then proceeded to spend 20g on weaponcrafting and used the crafting booster and it didn’t give me anymore than the 7 levels I was supposed to get. ?? I’m pretty angry because I wouldn’t have spent that amount of gold or time if I was just going to get those 7 levels AND I used the a nonworking crafting booster. Was this guy making it up? If so, what do crafting boosters actually do? It says it will increase crafting exp gained by 50% on criticals. I assume that every couple things I craft I will get a critical hit like in fighting and it will increase the exp 50% more than it normally would. but I’m sitting at exactly 7 levels higher. Help would be appreciated and if it was a bug then I would like my 20g and crafting booster back. I was about to purchase several more of them off of the gem store but it seems pointless now.

So I looked it up on google and people are saying that it only boosts your crafting exp in crafting levels. Thus it should save you money correct? If that were the case then why did I craft up to 400 using a crafting guide and get to the last part in the guide and it boosted me to 400. I didn’t get it early or anything. Waste. Don’t buy crafting boosters anyone. They’re worthless.

Its not bugged and the booster works like you described. This means that you need less mats to level your craft to 400 because you gain more craft exp. But regular exp arent effected by a crafting booster.

Yes, I responded to my initial post but if that’s the case it’s so extremely minimal that it doesn’t matter in the slightest as I had to use each one of my materials till the very end to get to 400. I didn’t get there with any less or any faster.

Then you should post in the game bugs forum or make a bug report by typing /bug in the chat window.

Hard to say on this one. The Crafting Booster unlike the Experience Booster does not give a guarantee boost. It only increases your chances of a getting a critical success which gives bonus exp. It is the crafting equivalent of the Magic Find Booster.

Actually, I am not sure, if the crafting booster applies to discovery as well or only to crafting from the crafting panel. As you do mostly dicovery anyways until 500, the easiest way to check it would be when you refine ori or ancient wood from 400-425.

According to the wiki the booster only applies to the xp gained by crafting, it does not count towards you leveling your char. Your char gets the normal xp dose so to speak while your level in crafting does get the bonus.

I believe this was put in later and that at first it did count towards both, so if that someone in LA did all this long ago, it might well be that he/she is not lying but doesn’t know about the change either.

So the 7 levels are actually accurate.

The reason it doesn’t do a whole lot is because most of the levels you gain from crafting is through discovery, not actual crafting. Discovery is already a 100% critical XP, so the booster has no effect on that. If you level only by crafting existing recipes without using discoveries then you would notice the difference, though I don’t know why anyone would do this.

For tailor/armorsmith/leatherworker 400-500 took 24/25 exotics with booster+guild buff for me. The slight difference was because of runes.

crafting booster does level up crafting faster during discovery compared to not using it. gw2crafts says it takes discovering 36 exotics to get from 400 to 500. with a booster, it took me 19.

I didn’t check how much I crafted. I know however, that I (approx.) crafted to 420 with refinement, to 450 with discoveries, then a few levels with ascended materials and the rest again with discoveries. At about 490 I switched to crafting known recipes instead of discovery, as the costs were lower that way (e.g. selling staff vs. trident).

The only sample I could still take is with tailoring, but given the costs of getting armor crafting skills to 500 and that I do not intend to ever grind for asc. armor, that won’t happen.

I wouldn’t buy a booster on the TP, but if you have some spare ones in your bank… better to use them then to let them rot in there imho.

Crafting boosters give you a +50%, additive with wvw bonus, chance to critical while doing a craft. Max bonus of 70%. What a critical does while crafting is give you 50% bonus crafting experience that is additive with other crafting bonuses(discovery, masterwork and rare crafts).

The following was my answer a similar question:

Because critical crafts are not uniformly distributed there isn’t a good way to do that. This should give you a rough estimate if you want to guess though.
Assuming 100% critical rate:
For normal, uncommon and exotic, a crit(discovery) results in 150%(250%) bonus xp for a reduction of 1/3(1/5) total mats
For masterwork, a crit(discovery) results in 250%(350%) bonus xp for a reduction of 1/5(1/7) total mats
For rare, a crit(discovery) results in 375%(425%) bonus xp for a reduction of 2/15(2/17) total mats
For 50% crit rate you would double the denominator, eg normal item non-discovery crits would reduce material by 1/6 on average.
