Crafting can actually make you gold for once?
You want to know why things stay hidden? Because once you post something the price of the item on the TP skyrockets up to market equilibrium and any ability to make money off of said idea is now effectively dead due to saturation.
What’s your point here? Anybody can do this it’s only a matter of using common sense. Oh mithril and silk go together, and craft a level 80 helmet? Oh, I can also salvage that helmet to get ectoplasm?
The only people that are against this, are those that were using it for their own gain.
Don’t you need 15 of the fine crafting mats per insignia though? That’s 15 items around 80c each, plus several bolts of silk. Doesn’t seem like its making much money. Why not just sell your mats and not go through all the trouble?
There’s a potential for a multiplier there if you get lucky. The few silver profit can skyrocket if you get lucky salvages. At about 2 ecto per salvage thus far (from just trashing my tailor made yellow gear as i replace it) it could be profitable. At the same time, ecto prices have already dropped 3 silver. As a result, everything using Ectos is going to suddenly become a lot cheaper.
you get ~0.9 ecto on average per salvage in the long run
It’s more profitable just to sell the stuff needed. Tried it out and with 1:1 salvage ecto ratio it would be close to break even, but it turned out that the salvage rate ended up actually being lower. Could be due small sample size, but at best you can expect break even with a risk + the time invested and you could actually spend the time better just by farming dynamic events somewhere.
I want to make something clear, because it seems that nobody in these games seems to realize it. It happened in WoW and it is happening here.
If you go to farm something, to use that farmed material to build something, even if the material were “free”, you are still losing money. Those materials still have a value, and they can be sold. Thinking that a helmet that is sold for 5coins, that is built using mat A wich can be sold for 2 coins, and mat B that can be sold for 2 coins, the helmet only gives you 1 coin of profit, even if you farmed the materials. True, you also get the other 4 because it was like selling them together, and in this example it is a good trade, but keep in mind that materials always worth money, even when farmed.
I has seen a lot of time in WoW people selling crafted good cheaper than the required materials “because they farmed them”.
In other words, people fail to consider opportunity costs.
