Crafting choice affecting drop rate?
Game Designer
Your choices in crafting do not affect your drop rates at all.
Thank you for the reply, Linsey. Would there be any other explanation for such a big difference in drops? It’s really getting my wife down, that I keep getting all these dyes (even gold item drops) and she gets next to nothing.
Your luck, of course. It’s the same reason some people get lots of <INSERT CRAFTING MATERIAL HERE> from salvaging and others get none. If you want my advice, I’d say offer your wife some of your drops as a show of good faith.
I do. I give her all my cooking stuff, and around half of the dyes
This is a bit obvious, so you may have already looked into it, but if you’ve got Magic Find % gear and your wife does not, it could account for the discrepancy. Could just be random loot being random, though.
It seems like dyes drop more in the low level zones, but I don’t have any solid data to back that up.
My wife and I have the exact same problem — I consistently get about 4 – 5x the number of dyes she does.
Obviously, the problem is that husbands are OP and need to be nerfed.
RNG. It’s the source of all your joys and all your sorrows.
It is really, really hard for people to understand just how randomness really works. People want to look for patterns – it’s how we all live every day. But the thing a lot of posters don’t seem to understand is that just because something happens to you 100 times in a row doesn’t mean ANYTHING. If 100 people come to this forum and post that something happened to them 100 times, that STILL doesn’t mean anything. Think about the scale here: things are happening to millions of people millions of times per day. Your personal experience with random generation doesn’t amount to more than a grain of sand on a beach.
RNG is RNG. Your millage can and will vary.
Humans love to find patterns, even when there are none – it’s a survival mechanism we evolved. It may be that your wife is getting more drops of some other type that y’all aren’t noticing because they aren’t as interesting to you as the dyes. Or maybe her psuedo-random number generator on her computer is busted
One of the best parts about duoing with my husband – he gives me all his cooking supplies. Not his dyes though… he leaves them unidentified to sell them. I don’t get how he can do that.
He might start thinking he knows what’s right for you.

ok this is rather a bit ridiculous :| but i will +1 the comment that husbands need to be nerfed. :P
Heh. I can sympathize with this. Even though I know deep down drops are random, sometimes it really feels like it isn’t. My main is an elementalist. To date, 90% of the yellow drops I have received are swords, greatswords, or chain armor pieces that I share with my guardian friend, while the last 10% might be leather pieces or a torch or something. Whether I am looting mobs or the map completion chest, I never EVER get anything I can use. I have yet to even equip a yellow staff, because I am currently saving money and only equipping what I get via drops. It has become a running joke that this game hates me.
So while I know it’s random, I do sometimes wish that, even for a half hour per day, my drops were pulled from a loot table that was limited to items I could actually USE. (And no, I don’t seem particularly blessed with other types of drops such as dyes.)
