I just started the other day and I hear a lot about crafting.

I know crafting is different for each game so i wanted to know if it is worth it on the game and what the extent of what crafting is and does.

For instance: there are some games in which a lot of the best equipment come from the items players make and sell to one another. Is this true in GW2?

Also. What items and crafts are available to players to do?

There are 3 weapon-making professions (Weaponsmith, Huntsman, Artificer) and 3 armor-making (Armorsmith, Leatherworker, Tailor), along with Cooking (which makes food that gives buffs) and Jeweler (rings, earrings, amulets).

Thing is, because of how many crafters there are, most crafted equipment is dirt cheap on the TP, and it is quite expensive to level them up, plus for armor and weapons you’re quite likely to just get a drop that’s as good as or better than your equipment. Only Jeweler is particularly useful for actually making usable equipment because jewelry drops are quite rare. They’re still dirt cheap on the TP though.
And then Cooking doesn’t really get much beneficial stuff until higher levels and kind of explodes your inventory with intermediary ingredients.

The only reason for crafting is the joy of crafting. If you do not derive joy from the actual process of crafting, then you probably should not even start it. It is expensive and the things that you can build for the most part you will have to sell for cheap. Even the limited number of things you can benefit from will always require you to invest crafting effort in them, so if you do not enjoy the process, you will find it boring and not worth it.

Now, if you simply find the act of creating stuff from raw materials delightful, then it is more of an investment, just like everything else in the game.
