I have been running TA and using my tokens to buy the level 65 rare light armour from the armour vendor (30 tokens each) and then salvaging it. I also kill dredge in the lower portion of Dredgehaunt Cliffs. They drop miner’s bags which have a chance to contain linen scraps and rugged leather sections.
Hoping others comment because these methods are relatively slow…

I open the champion bags I recieve whilst doing Dungeons/Fractals (obviously Champ-farm would be faster, but I enjoy Dungeons/Fractals.) on lower level toons so the items that come from it salvage into Linen (check wiki for level-range) since the chance for T6 materials comes from the quality of the bag (Exotic) rather than the level apparently. I open mine on a 69 toon currently and receive plenty of Linen and t6 Materials, still want to try on a 49 toon due to what all possible material results turn into being 1s-5s. Not a very viable option for someone without an alt in the Linen levelrange though.
I also used to turn Karma into Crab-grabber (Bloodtide coast → Sorrowful WP, heart-vendor to the north) to put in the forge and then salvage for Linen, but Karma is too valuable to really make this worthwhile.
Any other method I think getting the Gold to buy it is easier.
I’ve farmed the Ettins in the center of Timberline Falls. Not only do they drop bags that can drop linen, they also drop salvagable cloth that breaks down into linen and cotton, favoring linen.
Use karma buy lvl kitten blue cloth items. Mystic forge 4 of them. The item you get back can be salvaged for linen.
Never turn karma into gold. Since the nerf it’s a heck of a lot harder to come by. I know it isn’t a currency that everyone needs or uses, but there are much better ways to get linen than to use karma. You never know when/if you will need it and you will be very sad when you have to farm for it and it takes forever.

Hum I have 2million karma left out of the ~12million karma I have used all game. I know that orrian boxes use to be a good way to use karma before A-net nerfed it. Was getting 20g for 1million karma in boxes at that time. With Karma to linen I am getting 25g for 250k karma. Karma is the only thing I can not get rid of still have 500 obsidian shard with other ascended mats.

Go to the events with flame legions with a couple of friends. That should help upscale the event and make the killing quicker. Supplementing with Twilight Arbor runs is also a good idea. You could even get 2 cabalist mantles per run from the dungeon vendor afterwards and salvage them.
tried farming the ettins in souther Shiver peaks too. Too much health to be efficient and stolen supply bags were giving way more leather than linen. Booooooo
Cloth in general needs an overhaul. We NEVER had issues generating more of it when we needed to in Gw1 b/c the most basic level dropped like gangbusters from Undead and also salvaged from waaaay more types of gear PLUS Trophy Drops. (DUST too)
Buy the bags that have good chances to drop Linen on buy order, then sell all the materials you get that aren’t Linen to recoup some of your money. Depending on the bag this will be cheaper than buying Linen directly from the market and certainly much faster than farming.
Generally speaking when I decide I must farm for cloth in the wild, I go for the bags dropped by Pirates/Bandits as their drop rates for bags are pretty high. Ritual bags produce more cloth on average, but the drop rate for the bag has been lower in my experience. I try to avoid farming bags that won’t give me 75+ in one hour.
I found the Dredge in Timberline Falls (up in the northern part of the zone) to have a decent bag drop rate, and linen from those bags to also have a decent drop rate. Farmed most of my linen for ascended there.

If you’re going the farming route, I echo the advice of farming Flame Legion. They drop not only bags with linen, but also direct cloth salvage items. (As compared to dredge or Inquest, which drop metal salvage items. Bandits/pirates also drop cloth salvage items, but those enemy types in the right level band only spawn during certain events, which makes them unreliable.)
Honestly, the current best way to “farm” linen is to do daily dungeon tours and just buy it. It is incredibly hard to be able to farm ~6g worth of linen in an hour, the time it takes to do ac p1/2/3 and profit 6g.

That’s fine for a short term solution, but if you need lots of linen you should be farming it too otherwise you are going to be hurting yourself.

I’m unsure of how much linen the OP farms /hr, but I’d go so far as to say that the price of linen could double and even triple(!)and farming dungeons would still be a better route. I just checked the TP, and it costs ~1.2g for a stack of linen. Just from doing 1 path of AC (in ~15 minutes), you’ve already netted yourself around 275 linen. Even if the price doubles (which realistically it won’t), 135 linen in 15 minutes is still a very efficient way of gathering linen.
If you can get a group together, farming the Flame Legion event south of pig iron mine can be pretty profitable as it scales up nicely. Stand up on the wall outside of the circle so you don’t actually take the place back. In general killing Flame Legion as part of an event seems to yield much better drop rates than just killing random spawns as they seem to be pretty nerfed.

Linen scraps are currently sitting at 4.9s, which makes them 12g per stack.
Both of them just took another huge leap in price.
….and here I had a tiny shred of hope that Anet would recognize this was a growing issue and include some relief in this patch. I don’t know wt* I was thinking.
Have a LVL 50ish toon open all your Champ boxes….most cloth items will salvage Linen.
Those farming Events need to take breaks to do an Event or 2 in other zones to clear DR…loot drops from mobs (even Event spawned) are ABSOLUTELY effected by DR.
