Anet you need to give an alternate way of aquisition, such as a rare drop. I salvaged 5 exotics today with a black-lion kit and got nothing. This probably means I am supposed to salvage my high end weapons that cost at least 21g to craft, this is impractical because it means we need to drop even more gold into the process.

Only lv 80 Exotics drop Dark Matter, and even then, it’s still RNG based. I suggest crafting them, or buying them off the TP, then invest in more Black Lion Salvage Kits.

Aight this is what I do… I do dung’s that give rabid/soldier/dire weapons from tokens. Then you salvage those for the inscription chance + ectos + dark matter. Far less chance of just getting diddly squat. I gotta do some dung every day to keep making stuff for ascended anyways, so I just focused on those (and cof for the easy mode 70 rares→ectos).

that is not true – I salvaged an old lvl 76 exotic pistol (generic world drop) with a mystic kit and got 1 dark matter a few days ago

I’ve said this ins another thread, bite the bullet and get a black lion salvage kit. I had a great deal of success with it whereas I had no success at all with my mystic salvage it.

Anyways you can salvage ANY exotic to get dark matter. There are many, many exotics that cost only like 1g or less. Or you could turn dungeon tokens into exotics and salvage those.

I easily got around 50 globs of dark matter from just salvaging various exotics I’ve found, and dungeon exotics.
