Dark matter, Ectos and RNG

No one will kick you off of dungeon team for not having ascended weapons…
Sell the exotic you find that’s worth 4g, buy 4 80 exotics for 1g each.
I’m getting dark matter way faster than I can use it.
You have to craft exotics to reach 500 so just salvage those. They seem to have the same drop rate as named exotics. That is, once I salvaged a couple and got nothing, and another time I salvaged 4 and got 9 ectos and 9 dark matter.
And those who say that we are not forced to have ascended, really haven’t been paying attention. Within the next couple of months, that will be a necessity in order to get on a dungeon team. If you don’t show up with a Zerker ascended weapon you will get kicked off the team.
Can I barrow your crystal ball that you use to see the future? I can use some good lotto numbers for tomorrow.
All the dungeons were build for people that have rares and exotics. The only people that will care if you have an ascended weapon are fractal groups, and elitists that you wouldn’t want to group with anyway. Plus with the LFG tool coming soon, you will be more than able to fill out your group with people that wouldn’t care either way.
I got 2 exotics today, I used a BL kit to salvage them. I got one ancient log, 2 elder logs, and 2 sigils. No ecto, no dark matter. Really? A-net actually thought of a way to separate more fools from their money.
Without going too far into it: your salvage size is pathetic. I’ve had streaks of over ten consecutive salvages yielding no ectos with mystic kits. Getting two zero-yield salvages in a row is a common occurrence, so stop whining.
So far I’ve used about one and a half black lion kits (haven’t tracked specific # of uses) and I’ve gotten about 30 dark matter. Dark matter seems to be produced at the same rate as ectos as far as I can tell, which really isn’t absurd.
As Lalocat stated, just salvage the exos you craft as you level up. Using a black lion kit you’ll probably get enough dark matter to make at least one ascended weapon.

This is what I’ve been doing… for profit… and I don’t need dark matter but it’ll get you some.
I do dungeons and save the tokens and get the cheapest PVT/Rabid/Dire weapons (offhands with these stats like a focus). They have a chance to give you an inscription of that type when you salvage it. It’s still RNG, but it’s more chances at getting something good. TA/SE/HOTW are very fast and easy.
Also if you just need/want the ecto’s then do COF turn 30 tokens in for rare level 70 armor (HOTW works for this as well).
Plus you get the $ and shards… good stuff all around.

The problem is that due to the randomness of the salvage rate, you can end up like I did.
I crafted my way to 500 weaponsmith, crafting about 30 exotics. I salvaged them for Glob of Dark Matter. On 500 I ended up with 9 Glob of Dark Matter, not enough to even build a single weapon.
Was I unlucky? Maybe.
But no matter how unlucky you are, there should be absolutely no chance of not getting enough of them from all the exotics crafted from 400-500.
Suggestion:
1-3 Glob[s] of Dark Matter per exotic instead of 0-3.
So no matter how unlucky you are, you know, that after 10 exotics you have enough.
I mean, that is the start, what comes next? When you craft an ascended armor, you have a 50% chance of failling, which gives you a bolt of silk instead?

I can agree with the first part. Having a non-zero minimum would be fair since dark matter is untradeable (unlike ectos). Or at least boost it to the range of ectos where it’s 0-5 per salvage to boost the average long-run yield.
As for the second part: don’t fall into a slippery slope here (and yes, I know you’re exaggerating a bit). They were simply mimicking the behavior of salvaging for ectos with this new material. There’s no indication they’re headed to make crafting itself RNG based.

Are there any (decent sized) data for salvage rate with mystic/master and BL kits atm?

Will never happen. Anet wants people to lose gold playing the various slot machines they’ve set up, and so long as there is a zero return, there’s a slim chance the user might drop real cash for gems→gold to buy more exotics.
Monetization in a B2P model is ok to an extent. Anet has gone full on psychosis with it.
pick the exotics you salvage carefully. So far, I’m at 24 dark matter from ~30 exotics, and every single one of those has given me gold profit in addition to dark matter. after bloodstone dust, dark matter is the second-most easiest to get ascended-making material (since you only need 10 per ascended)

Some people will…
.
…Back On Topic: Anecdote from yesterday that will surprise some people:
Early in the day Yesterday the Servers were constantly DC’ing us and “Rolling Back” all the inventory actions we’d make. … I noticed this after salvaging a full bag of Rares and some Exotics…. after logging back in, all those items were back in my bags … complete rollback here, none of the mats I got from them present, only my Memorization of what I got in the first Trial…
In the first run… salvaging literally the same exact items … salvaging 6 exotics: 2 of them “named”, 4 of them Crafted Bows… I got only 3 Darkmatters off one of the named, and NOTHING from the rest. …Then I got DC’d and rolled back.
After CAREFULLY salvaging them again … IE: Logging each time I got DM to ensure it saved to the Database server properly… I ended up getting 12 Darkmaters instead. …this was purely Mystic Kit salvaging too, no BL kit.

Go play an asian MMO for a few minutes if that’s really what you believe.
Dark Matter really is the least of your problems while making ascended weapons.
