Did you buy or craft your legendary?
Craft it myself. Got the materials by playing the game and buying them off TP, one by one. And I farmed the precursor by doing CoF path 1 over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over, until I had 600g needed to buy Dusk (I also threw in 300g in the Mystic Toilet trying to get it, but that turned out to be a big failure).
Crafted all 4. Making 5th now, but taking it very chill compared to last ones.
Would be epic switching between Sunrise and Twilight once done, also 5/5 should complete the legendary achievement once / if they fix Sunrise and Twilight bug (shame you can’t wear the title).
I think a good question would be : Has anyone not bought theirs? What I mean by that is….I highly doubt many if any has 100% farmed theirs. At some level everyone I have seen has bought at least some parts if not most of the parts for them.
I know I am almost 2600 hrs deep in 100% farming mine and it still seems a very long way off with rng being the beast it is.
Note* I have the means to buy/finish it whenever, but that defeats the point for me.

Well what I was really specifying was who bought theirs straight off TP and who more or less crafted it. I see Sunrise for instance listed around 1900-2000 gold. Now me, I don’t have that coin. I also don’t like grinding. I like killing players and having fun. And frankly nothing about Mystic forge and marerials that have astronomical chances of dropping interest me. That being said, Anet doesn’t reward me as generously as players who farm all aspects of the game so it’ll probably be many more months until I get my legendary if I still have interest by then of course.
But, at this point I’ll probably sell all my stuff and just save gold til I can afford it. I spent too many years grinding Eve Online and wasted hour upon hour making a game my second job when I could’ve just played the game.
Anyway congrats on your progress.
Can’t believe people seriously expect to farm a legendary piece by piece.
When you aim for much more than 1, just how long do you think it will take?
What exactly defeats what purpose when you can’t afford to neglect your family and private life on the expense of a video game?
I won’t tell anyone how to play the game, but you cannot expect people to spend more time than they should on any kind of achievement, while labeling it right or wrong.

Yes, because grinding 2,000 T6 Mats is very epic. 4 times in my case. And crafted, not bought.
Legendary counter: Twilight, Bolt, Incinerator, Incinerator Nr. 2, Meteorlogicus, The Dreamer

Ofc it’s everyone’s individual choice. It just so happens that farming it takes a whole lot more effort than playing the tp. That for me makes it more “legendary”. Imo playing the tp would be taking the easy route and I would feel like I cheated.

You think small my friend.
When you want to make more than 1, you don’t have the privilege of farming all the mats.
Unless you live with your parents, alone, and jobless.

That’s sorta the issue I have with the current set up…….“we don’t have the option”.
Edit for clarity……^ for multiples

I know quite a bit of people with Legendaries that are your “casual, average joe” players.
Some of them got lucky and hit it big at the Karka lottery. I know some people that have hopped on multiple overflows to do the event again to get at that chest again.
Also, back then, gems were very cheap to purchase compared to how much they cost today. And there’s been plenty of limited edition items, like Halloween items, and other items that have skyrocketed in price, allowing people that invested to cash in big time.
Haven’t done the math, but buying all the things needed for a Legendary off the Trading Post (Excluding things like Mystic Clovers, of course), is probably WAY more cost efficient than simply buying the Legendary itself. I could be wrong, though.
I don’t want to be rude TC, but I get the feeling you created this thread with a sense of bitterness towards Legendaries and what is needed to obtain them.
Crafting mine took 4 months, 2 of which were spent doing World Completion and gathering mats, 1 month in WvW and the final month finishing the karma and doing the crafts, clovers etc. Main way I got karma was doing dailies and monthlies – I think I missed only about 7 dailies in that 4 month span.
I’m not doing another and in fact the project I started immediately afterwards was leveling a mesmer alt who doesn’t use the one i already have. Go figure.

Ok well I knew this thread wouldn’t reach that many posts before someone had to say “you’re bitter about legendaries” and things along those lines. Always has to be a terd in the punch bowl.

That’s not a terd, it’s a Baby Ruth candy bar.
Anyways, I’m with the others that say if you want more than one, you’d end up either buying it or buying a lot of the mats for it.
I crafted mine but did not farm all the mats (that’s too much dedication)
I had no intention of crafting my legendary, but got bored last Friday and decided to toss in 100G worth of GS rares into the MF. I think it was about the 37th or so attempt when Dusk popped out.
After that, I took the 200G I had to my name, sold every T1-T5 mat, received a bunch of T6 mats from clover attempts (I had a little over 100 in each T6 category), got 2 very lucky GS skins over the weekend from SAB and traded back about 2.7k gems to gold (I had converted 200G to 10k gems back when conversion rate was 51 gems to 1G) and combined all my Onyx lodestones from cores and used all the ectos/ori ingots I had saved up to craft my Twilight over 2 days.
It was quite a ride, I made my guildies run dungeons with me for money support.
