Discovery Items
Usually, at that level, you should discover exotic weapons.
Did you buy the recipes from the master weaponsmith for all exotic inscriptions?
Craft those inscriptions (or buy some uncraftable ones on the tp) along with weapon components (orichalcum sword blade and hilt for example).
The inscriptions and crafting components should be available in the discovery window, if you havent discovered it. With 17 different inscriptions and 8 weapon types, you can potentially craft 136 different exotic weapons.

Strange that it let me discover a minor sigil now but not the major or superior versions although I have all mats in inventory. Is this normal behavior? or should I contact customer service?
Major and superior sigil of the night both require recipe sheets.
Thanks on recipe sheets wiki does not note that.
Should I infer that I have done all the recipes that Mithrill, Candy Corn and Orichalcum that do not require a recipe sheet. I had not seriously tried to find out and do discovery of recipes as I leveled up so sort of surprised that I have nothing but a very hard to discover what to mix with it Gob of Ectoplasm and Destroyers Lodestone along with hard to figure one left in iron and steel as finding nothing in wiki that I have the mats for.
The destroyer lodestones will be for Primordus weapons: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Primordus_weapons
If I were you I would assume that if an item doesn’t appear on your discovery panel it can’t be used for anything discoverable. The chances of there being a bug are quite low.
Assuming that you are trying to get to 500 efficiently you are probably going about it the wrong way. It is more economical to get there by discovering exotic weapons than lower level runes. If on the other hand you want to make sure you have discovered everything for some irrational reason though, that’s cool, I can totally relate to that.
Here is what I would do from your position:
Look up the first ascended weapon you want to craft, and figure out how many of each ascended material you need (deldrimor steel, spiritwood, bloodstone bricks etc.). Craft these materials while you still get some experience for them.
Once you have enough for your ascended weapon buy some exotic inscription recipe sheets from the crafting vendor and level up to at least 499.
If you get to 499 it may be worth making lower level discoveries such as inscriptions, or level 400 rare items (rare swords, greatswords and daggers should actually be profitable to craft).
Hopefully that’s not a page full of stuff you already know.
I’d assume it’d work the same. I recently went for grandmaster tailor. I was going back over all the lower tiers and discovering all the items I was missing, but even with a crafting booster that that was very inefficient. Try crafting Tier 5 rares or Tier 6 exotics that you don’t have yet. And use the boosters if you have them. I made it from 467 to 500 in 3 sets of armor. Also, if your world is doing well in WvW, do it in your borderlands for a little boost in critical crafting experience. :]
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.
Thanks all for advice.
Yes this is not for leveling more I just like to get things fully done only mats (gold) for new weapons is keeping me from 500 right now but closer.
It does bug that recipes in the wiki that I have mats for I can not make them as items do not show up have to assume wiki missing recipe required note.
Also bugs that with things like iron have one undiscovered recipe but nothing in wiki. (yes know the iron one just for completionist urge as it gives basically no experience to find out)
If you buy the LVL 80 T5 RARE inscriptions / insignia recipes, you can craft (discover) them without Ectos and Salvage them for possible Ectos (side bonus). Keep in mind that T5 materials are not exactly cheap right now (see below) and your discoveries are NOT going to be that great in terms of XP, but it can get you into the mid to upper 480s, so you have to discover (or craft) fewer Exotics to hit 500.
I ran a few toons back and forth thru Cursed Shore and Malacor’s Leap for several nights gathering T5 (and T6, of course) and was able to make some headway toward 500 without spending any gold.

The way I leveled to 500 weapon smith was:
1. Mats refinement till I got no experience
2. Discover all the dagger recipes (Berserker, Assassin, etc).
3. Discover sword recipes
4. Discover greatsword recipes
Reason being that it makes my ancient wood stock piles last longer. At the time I was leveling to 500, ancient wood was significantly rarely than orichalcum. This was before they started popping regularly from salvages. Daggers, swords and great swords only use orichalcum to craft their main components while wood is only used in the dowels.
Once you can craft ascended mats, start working towards the vision crystal, that will give you quite a nice boost of exp. If you’re intending to make a few ascended weapons, it doesn’t hurt to stock pile a few vision crystals. The other ascended mats, mithrilium and ectoplasm residue, aren’t as much help as they’re time gated so unless you plan to spread your leveling over a few days don’t count on them being a source of exp. However, you should do them as part of preparation for making your weapon otherwise it’s a huge waste of time again because of the time gating.
I recommend making a point of doing regular iron and platinum runs. These mats are where you will be most short as Deldrimor steel requires a LOT of iron, in the form of iron ingots and steel ingots.
