So, I’ve been trying to work on my cooking skill these past few hours. I am always gathering and every time I come across a karma vendor with “[Ingredients] in Bulk”, I buy them, no matter the level. I have a lot of ingredients.

I do use a database for help, because I honestly don’t have the space to keep a whole bunch of crafted bases and things available, and today I was scrounging through my ingredients and comparing them to recipes I could discover, when Aha!! I found one that required a level 25 soup that I hadn’t discovered yet!

[Bowl of Staple Soup Vegetables] is the item in question, and I thought to myself, Okay, I don’t see this on my production list… But I must have the ingredients, I’ve bought them in bulk and gathered SO many of them on my main and alts…

Sure enough, I had Celery, Onion, Potato, and Carrots all in my collectibles… But Celery wasn’t showing up in the Discovery panel. I’m stumped! I can put it in my inventory, and it still doesn’t show up! Is there something I’m missing?? Does the Discovery panel “max out” at a certain amount of ingredients??

I noticed this too (hasn’t happened yet but I know it will at some point) this was most likely an unintentional effect of a patch that made crafting directly from tabs possible instead from inventory only, as it was before.

A work around would be to put some ingredients on the inventory of an alt (the ingredients that have a higher level than what you can craft) so that your cook only has access to the ingredients that you need.

Is bowl of soup staples a discovery? I have it under the cooking ingredients section (not soups), and if you can’t make it yet there are a LOT of discoveries you have yet to find.

I don’t remember any discoveries with celery… there’s a purchased recipe, the soup vegetables, and maybe a dye. I’ll have to check when I get home from work.

I have tons of ingredients as well and have not run into any issues with the discovery tab. I have yet to find a case where an item doesn’t show on the tab, but could be included in a discoverable recipe. I’m only at lvl 250 cooking, but I don’t think I’m going to find any issues with discovery. When items don’t show on the tab it means that the recipe either needs to be bought or will be automatically learned at some point as you level up.

This was confusing at first, but every situation like this that I’ve run into has turned out to be one of these two cases. Not every recipe can be discovered.

Pandemoniac was correct, I simply didn’t see it under cooking ingredients. I guess, since there are no discoverable recipes with Celery, it just doesn’t show up in the discovery panel?

Regardless, I’ve gotten some good advice on how to manage my cooking ingredients. Thank you so much for that!

Also, the search box works really well. Type in “staple” and you not only get the recipe, but also recipes it is an ingredient in. Just don’t make the same mistake I did and forget you have the “have ingredients” box checked.
