I’ve seen plenty of crafting guides for Huntsman saying for the person to make longbows and shortbows, encouraging to buy materials if necessary, when matching shortbow and longbow (4 wood and 3 leather each) vs. torch and warhorn (2 metal and 2 wood each) torch and warhorn are cheaper.

So my question is, does a player gain more experience if the recipe requires more raw material or is the experience the same for whatever you craft/discovery in it’s respective tier?

Back to the first bit, we craft bows because the leather is dirt cheap and wood isn’t too bad. It’s certainly easy to get. Overall, bows are cheaper to craft.

AFAIK you don’t get more crafting experience if the item requires more mats. The only thing that gets you more crafting XP are the various critical crafting buffs like the WvW buff, guild buff or the coin mall item for that.

If you combine all of those buffs on a Friday before WvW reset you can save yourself a lot of mats because you gain crafting XP much more quickly. It makes a really big difference at levels 400 to 500.

My posts are facts as I know them, or my own opinion, and do not represent any guild.

The guides also tend to factor in how much you can sell the crafted item for, so if is possible that the sale value of bows is enough more than other items to make it more cost effective overall.

+1 to Erich – more people use bows than torches, so if you can craft a bow for 5g and sell it for 4g, that’s technically cheaper than crafting a torch for 3g that you sell for 1g.
