This last batch of 400 greatswords brings me to 1360 I’ve flushed. No end in sight!

Wondering if I am now eligible to join that group of salty old players who egg on the younguns wanting to try their luck with the MF.

2000g burned 1 precursor acquired. So 1500g lost until now

This might be no consolation, but you guys lost more than I ever had!

I don’t know, I don’t count. I crafted maybe 32 weapons, otherwise I flush lvl 80 rares that I pick up, perhaps around 200 over time.

Hanging in there for precursor crafting.

Just buy the kitten precursor.

Dawn took me over 1500, Dusk took me over 2100, but 3200 more later has shown nothing so I stopped for the most part. I sold both and with selling the left overs I think I am still up about 100g. The forge is a cruel mistress best left to the lucky or rich.

You’re not eligible to complain until you’ve thrown ~5000 raw into the forge, in my book.

I agree with Ensign , flushed 15k GS so far and counting. Keep it going!

I would like to watch a 1-2 hr video of forging thousands of rares and not getting a single precursor.

Is there an estimated number out there how much better exotics are? Just curious.

At the end of the day all “evidence” here is anecdotal, but I do see claims quite often where people gotten the pre with rares.

Wow, these numbers are nutso. I stumbled into a system a few months ago that was close to sustaining itself cost-wise, and I was throwing tons of rares into the forge. Ended up getting 3 precursors in about a weeks time, and I thought ‘that solves it, just keep throwing them in, it may take a lot but eventually you’ll get it.’ That seems to be very much not the case. I guess I’ll wait for precursor crafting before I start working on another legendary.

Now I feel better about wasting about 400 g.
My story is a bit different though, I was a kitten bag.
First I got my precursor (tooth of frostfang). Then I spent a day or two figuring out if I should sell or keep. Decided to sell, because of “rumors” of precursors being much easier to get in near future..
Two weeks later I finished my world completion and regretted selling. I had enough gold to buy the precursor, but pro me decides “hmm, last time I got the precursor in only about 40 – 50 g of crafted axes, why shouldn’t that happen again? Then I’ll save some gold” ..

30 min later, 400 g poorer .. No pre cursor :S
I almost quitted the game after this, but decided to continue, I am still not fully healed since my heartbreak :S

If we assume the data in the link above is valid and what we have been told about getting the next tier up item from the MF (20% chance), then:

4 EXOTICS = 0.8% chance for precursor
4 RARES = 0.16% chance for precursor

(this is assuming that 4 RARES have to generate an EXOTIC before the PRECURSOR is even possible and that the resulting EXOTIC comes from the same table / chances as tossing in 4 EXOTICS (it might not)).

There is CERTAINLY a possibility to get a PRECURSOR from 4 RARES, but at BEST the chance is 5 times less than 4 EXOTICS.

Definitely interesting. Apparently someone else has provided even more information (larger sample) and it’s supposed to be around 1% for exotics. Haven’t found that yet though.

And since rares are minimum 30 silver and exotics 1 gold 20 silver, it’s probably better to use exotics.

Does anyone know how good it is to use a mystic forge stones instead of a fourth exotic?

Sorry if this is getting slightly off topic but I think everyone in this thread might be interested in improving chances?

No, mystic forge stones throw in a random element and actually make it worse if you’re going for a certain weapon. Stick with 4 of the same thing you want out of it.

I know for a fact you can get a precursor from 4 rares. I did it once.

I got dawn after throwing only 4 rares in on my first try…. but after that nothing again

Mystic forge stone will pop out a precursor but it will be a random one. I’ve done it a few times now. Sometimes it’s a “The Bard” and sometimes its “spark”
