So we can upgrade crafting materials via the Mystic Forge as in this example rugged leather upgrades to thick leather etc. Perhaps we should be able to downgrade materials so the above example will also be true backwards, ie we downgrade thick leather into rugged.

I think something like this could be a great way for us to do something with the over stock of mith, thick leather etc. We will ALWAYS have a lot of this in supply due to the fact no matter where we kill enemies if we are lvl 80 we will always get drops that salvage into those tier mats. The problem here is even if we are in certain areas trying to kill for certain mats our lvl 80 can actually work against us. An idea such as this could really help out I think.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

I get item drops on my lvl 80 ranger and lvl 70 warrior all the time that refine into level 1 and level 2 cloth mats.

This is something Anet more than likely has considered in the past and will more than likely implement in the future if prices for lower tier mats get out of hand long-term.

I am not a fan of this. This would effectively decrease the value of lower tier metals like copper and iron, since you could jut turn mithril into a bunch of it. Mithril is currently very cheap because people get more high level drops than low ones. Maybe I’m biased though because I like using iron gathering as an income. I suppose it would raise the value of mithril a bit though.

I certainly hope so, because something needs to be done. It is very sad when you are farming in a certain map hunting certain mats only to get drops of the highest level (because of your level) and be disappointed because you can’t turn them into that material you are hunting for in the first place…

If you think about it with Iron as an example. You would have to take Mith and break that down to Platinum first and then break that down into Iron (unless I am missing an ore here somewhere lol). With the current system of upgrading it takes I think maybe 250 of one mat to make 50 of the next tier (off the top of my head). I would think it would work pretty much the same in reverse. So to get your iron from mith you would have to use a lot of mith and in the end it just may not be worth it. For getting rugged leather as an example tho which right now costs 8 silver a piece from thick leather that costs maybe 8 copper would seem VERY worth it and would put that low valued leather to a good use while also balancing out the market again.

If anything this idea would give us options. And please don’t say things like “but this will make people want to avoid going back to lower lvl maps again to gain these materials”. The reason people don’t want to go back is probably because of the frustrations I am seeing when going back to try and gather these mats in the first place. The drop system is just FLAWED and makes the game not FUN to even try and do this. They need to do other things to give us incentives to go back to these other maps. It’s also very sad that there are only say maybe 1-2 maps where we can earn certain materials and they soon become a bore to run in and then you have to deal with the diminished returns on top of that…….yeah no ty I have far more fun watching paint dry.
