Other than cooking, what is the easiest/ cheapest crafting?

right now nothing. There is many who speculate that the T5 and T6 mats will become harder to obtain after the event on this coming weekend. thus buying up lots and lots of materials. The result have over doubled the price on some of the mats and others gone up a lot too.
Anet getting rid of bots who also add lots of mats to the market helps as well.

if I were you id wait to the market stabilizes, if not you risk spending lots more gold than you want.

And if you dont do that and decides to go forward with leveling crafts, then I sugges you do one you need.

Also, you should only have 2 crafting professions at 400 pr character. because it cost money to change and if you have all 8 craftings on 1 character you lose a lot of money changing back and forth. in fact you will over time end up paying many times the amount of gold you spent on leveling all 8 crafting professions trough switching between them as you need to craft a few items in one and a couple more in another.

I don’t remember if it was artificer or leatherworker, but a week or so ago someone calculated that it takes 2g to buy all the materials and you get 2g back from vendoring what you make – think they got to the 275 mark doing that.

I did artificer for around ~1-1.5g by making Tuning Crystals (6 piles of dust*, for each dust tier). You can buy the dust from the TP for the same price the crystals sell to the merchant. So it’s basically free levelling. I used the most money for the last 50 levels or so.

(You need to do some discoveries in between, as making the tuning crystals won’t get you enough exp to unlock the next dust tier)

Each dust tier requires around 3 stacks of dust (so 750)

• I’m talking about: Pile of Radiant dust, Pile of Incandescent Dust, Pile of Luminous Dust, Pile of Shimmering Dust, Pile of Glittering Dust.
