Empyreal Fragments
kitten called arena.net balance. Actually it’s not so hard to farm enough fragments for 1-2 weapons. 1 week of 5-6 daily jumping puzzelez and 1-2 dungeon runs and you are equiped.
It’s not the fact that some JPs give more than others…..
It’s which JP’s give more. ….3 of the ones in Caledon give 6-9 while none of the ones in Orr give that many. Very inconsistent “what the heck?!?” headshaking there.
There are 3 chests in Wayfarer’s that are fairly easy to get, 2 in Southsun, 4 in Queensdale and 1 in Metrica. That’s 10 chests per character getting you 25 to 30 fragments per level 80 character per day. For 5 characters that takes about 90 minutes per day, and it’s exactly how I don’t want to play this game!
Even worse? We’re going to be doing it all again soon for ascended armor. ><

Haha, almost all of the JPs that give lots of Fragments are either Asura- or pirate-themed. Just what are they up to??

Yep. It’s very strange how they were balanced. Very difficult to get to chests only give a handful (or none at all), while easy jumping puzzles give almost a dozen.
And yes, these hard to get. Even dungeon runners get Fragments slower than someone gathering up Bloodstone Dust or Dragonite Ore. I’m not sure what Arenanet was thinking about this.
Well they got lazy. Instead of determining each JP’s difficulty and adjusting the amount of fragments manually, they chose to apply some weird logic algorithm that gives 6-9 fragments for Morgan’s Leap (which you can combo into another 6-9 + 2-4 from Dark Reverie) and 2-4 fragments for Skipping Stones.
And by the way, both 6-9 puzzles above can be portaled to easily.
I just parked 2 lvl 80 alts at LA JP wqhich gives 6-9 fragments and do the run on my main. Not the fastest way but if I had 6 lvl 80 alts it would be possible to farm bout 50 fragments just by logging on alts and picking up the chest.
On my main by doing 4 Queensdale chests + JP there, 2 LA JPs, Maguuma one (3 chests) + Scaffolding/Cave one I easily get 30-45 fragments so it is possible to “farm” 100 fragments under 1 hour. Question is why?

There are actually 5 chests in Queensdale that aren’t jumping puzzle related. Each can drop up to 4 shards and can be obtained daily by each of your toons. The run takes about 5 minutes to do with each character. It’s an effective farm.
Here is a vid of the Queensdale locations I made with some of my guildies.
And it’s boring as f…k
I could just aswell run the easy dungeon paths over and over again to get empyreal frags, but guess what? That’s boring too!

So how do you want to aquire them?
After i got my first ascended weapon, i stopped farmng for them specifically and guess what, they still keep dropping.
I mostly play wvw and get 50-100 from it per day. Then i do the occasional dungeon run, if something pops up in guild chat and do 3 jumping puzzles if its a daily.
I get an average of 100 shards per day, which is, in my opinion, a fair rate to aquire them.

There are actually 7 super easily obtained chests in Queensdale.

Which all still give fewer Fragments than doing one Temple run for Dragonite.

Thanks for the video post. I got 18 fragments on my mesmer and 14 fragments on my thief . I just wish I had more high level characters to do this with.
I’m not sure what Arenanet was thinking about this.
If the rate had been a lot better in WvW (without nothing but PvD’ing happening), I think it would have been obvious exactly what they were thinking. But since that wasn’t even the case… yeah I don’t know.
The fact we don’t get ANY from Story-Dungeons either really shocked me.
(I did HotW story yesterday… got SQUAT) … 90 minutes carrying some first timers through an icy slog and what do I get? … 50 silver :p …. 90 mins on a champ train gives you over 300 Bloodstone Dust. These values are really jacked up.
Maybe they could have made the champ bags drop a random amount of one of the items rather than just dropping bloodstone dust at a ridiculous rate.

Or if all of the activities all dropped a random ingredient, then players could just do whatever they wanted and eventually get enough materials together.

I actually acquire most of the through jumping puzzles, but as I said they should be distributed better, with the longer and harder JPs giving more.
WvW is ok, but only if you run with the train or ninja-cap camps. The new bloodlust roamers get nothing
Go to orrmaps. Set it to only show chests. Go get all of the chests. Go do CoF path 1 and path 2 three times each. All of that should be able to be done inside of 2 hours. You should have 200-300 or more frags by the time you do all of that.
If you have multiple characters, you can do the chests and COF paths on those other characters.
Using this method I got my emps for my first ascended all in one day in just a couple of hours.
Anyone else find these slightly too rare?
No. I have several stacks of them that I don’t need yet. I’m not farming them or anything, but if you do WvW, dungeons, guild missions, or jumping puzzles you get a lot.

since i do WvW all the time Empyreal Fragments is not an issue but im having a problem getting Dragonite ore and 3-4 per keep lord is pathetic
I’ve got several full stacks of the new crafting mats and I would love it of they increased the bank stack size from 250 to 1000 for everything. I know they have just increased the maximum number of bank slots but it would be nice if you kept gear in the bank and not fill up with wood, metal, rare crafting mats…
Maybe we can use gems to upgrade bank stacks to 1000 (or further for more $$). I’d pay 800 gems for that.

Yeah… it’s practically impossible to get the dragonite necessary just by WvW. You have to go PvE.

Oh, come on, that’s far too sensible and equitable an idea.
i only do certain jumping puzzles that give me the highest ammount. per each lvl 80 char i usually make kitten fragments doing those certain jp.

And that’s the sad part, because there are dozens of brilliant JPs out there of which only a handful are worth doing for the reward itself. They should go through each and every one and balance them manually. I don’t know what algorithm they used originally but it’s laughably broken.
