So, I recently dinged 80. I had lvl 60-70 blue gear all with unused upgrade slots (apart from jewelry which I crafted myself and automaticly had upgrades in it). So at 80 I just bought complete lvl 80 blue armor and weapons and crafted lvl 75-80 jewelry and used the upgrade slots. I felt absolutely no difference at all in terms of my damage output and survivability. Both in PvE and WvW. So will upgrading my blue gear to full exotic gear give me any noticable increase in my damage/suvivability because if I see at the stat increases from blue to exotic, it’s only slightly more as from lvl 60/70’ish gear to lvl 80 blue gear.

From what I’ve read crafting is the easiest way to get exotic gear and it will take me about 20-25g for a full set bought through TP. Which will take me a lot of time to farm the gold. My jeweler is 375 and my Leatherworker will soon get to 375 too, as I almost have all mats to go from 300-375. But even if I do the crafting myself its still gonna take me a lot of time to farm mats and required gold.

I feel all that matters in WvW is getting lvl 80 for better traits. I feel like gear doesn’t do that much at all. I also feel that lvl 70+ PvE zones are too much group oriented, if not enough friends/guildies are online or want to come you’re screwed since respawn is too fast and I get easily overwhelmed solo. Same in WvW.

With my short bow I currently do 200 dmg hits and 400 dmg crits. With exotic gear, will this suddenly become 300 hit/ 600 crit? or more like 220 hit / 440 crit? if it’s the second, well it’s not worth the grind for me and I’d rather go make alts and level them at lvl 1-70 and get their crafts up by farming mats myself slowly. Because that’s where the game seemed to be much more enjoyable for me, because it was more manageable in solo.

Also, is weapon damage more useful than power/precision stats? If so, can I just buy a exotic weapon, don’t care about armor/jewelry and do feel like I have better damage output than with blue weapons?

So basicly my question is, will exotic crafted gear make my experience in lvl 70+ pve or WvW more enjoyable for more solo/2 player oriented gameplay or shall I just level some alts and get them to 80 because traits matter much more than gear?

I’d say go for it, you probably have most the stuff to craft the gear anyway.

When crafting I would make a rare MF set to get to 400 in the leatherworking as this would be easy to keep/switch to for PvE and making some money back. Then craft the exotic set that best suits your play style/build for playing in a group/dungeons/wvwvw.

I would recommend at least rare armor/weapons. You can get cheap gear of TP for around 25-30s ea depending on the stats. Therefore you could outfit yourself for under 3 gold.

You don’t need exotic to run dungeons. I’m running dungeons to get my exotics. I have a couple of alts, so when I ding 80 I go buy all rare armor and then start making them run dungeons to get exotics.

You will notice a different in survivability (unless you’re glass cannon) with armor and you’ll definitely notice a difference in damage with weapons.

I just got both jeweler and LW to 400, and crafted the MF gear. Since I still got 4.5g I think i’m just gonna buy an exotic shortbow for now since weapons is the only thing I can’t craft myself

I guess i’ll just have to farm some gold/mats for a while now with the MF gear. No hurry in getting the exotic gear

Check out the mystic shortbow. If you have the mystic coins and skill points for it, it’s amazing.

You can google the recipe for more accuracy, but it’s 30 mystic coins, eldritch scroll (50 skill points), 5 ancient shortbow stave, and 5 (whatever t6) strings.

The increment is pretty big I’d say. Not necessarily stat-wise, but performance-wise. You’ll notice you don’t get 1-shotted anymore or you can take more dmg, can deal more dmg, last longer in combat, etc.

I’d recommend running ac explo or cof path 1. Imo, they’re the easiest explo dungeons to run, and to get a full set of exotic armor in ac is considerably less than other dungeons. (1200 tokens versus 1380 for other dungeons). They look terrible though >.>

Just one question OP. Why did you buy Blue gear instead of Green gear?

Are you coming from WoW, where Blue was better than Green?

@Ethics Cool I can spare my skill points and mystic coins for that then. Didn’t know what they are for :P Is there any other way to get mystic coins other then completing daily achies?

@Lankybrit When I just dinged I had only 10s left cause I still had to buy the book for highest traits for 2g. I always used all crafting mats I found for crafting myself so I never had too much gold. Believe it or not but green gear was actually too expensive for me at that time.

Guess I was a little scared of how slow u get gold in this game but in the end it’s pretty doable it seems. I farmed like 3-4g today. Well, that’s mainly because I no longer need mithril ore myself and can now sell all

Short answer is yes, You will find solo play easier, and 1v1 in wvw will be more on par.

Run dungeons, use tokens to buy exotic armor and weapons and the money you make running them to buy jewelry.
