Its not from fratcals… This weapon was in the game (Well… Lootables) before fractals came out. People were searching for it before the update

I can confirm it is in fact from Fractals. I had found mine in the reward chest for completing the Urban Battlegrounds Fractals. There’s absolutely no reason Anet would make this one particular exotic mind numbingly hard to get.

Seriously if it is in Fractals- which I doubt very much- I will be really really disappointed.
The hunt for this staff has been going on since the game launched, yet no word of it in PvE.
Everything suggests that it is very rare and from a specific chest/boss.
Shadow Behemoth sounds like a good bet to me too atm- that event was very rarely done because it was bugged for ages and I know that you can get lvl80 drops from the chest at least.

That’s the point I’ve been trying to make for the longest time. Does the names of the item (Dawn, Dusk etc etc) have anything to do with where it drops? Sure there will be exceptions, but I haven’t seen any confirmation that the name “Final Rest” has to do with where it drops. Heck, Bramblethorne drops in AC.

If every named exotic has to drop in a place to do with its name, that’s an awful lot of effort on ArenaNet’s part. Do you think such a task would be high up on their priority list?

Also, I’d like to point out that this is the only weapon in the game (that I know of) that drops specifically from one boss/chest and not as a random drop or mystic forge recipe. More reason for it’s name to have something to do with the mob that drops it.

See bolded. That’s the worse part about this hunt. We have absolutely no idea if the drop site has anything to do with name, meaning it could drop anywhere!!

You know the drill…screen it…or there is no confirmation.

There’s no- absolutely 0%- chance that ANet put even a quarter of effort to hide a specific non-Greatsword piece of equipment in a specific area.
Like the Devs already said (more than once I believe) it drops from Boss event chests: those Glorious Chests. It’s got a really tiny drop chance because (go figure) exotic skins are rare and they’re all a contender for getting looted. So if anyone really wants it, your best bet is to keep an eye on the dragon timers & run Fractals in the mean time.

Of course you guys will probably just label this post as slander & lies while not taking a single bit of this to mind, and continue chasing your theories (which might I add are amazing). But no matter how much you look into it, MMO’s are just RNG drops and a few solid recipes. This Staff ain’t a recipe, so there’s only one other place to file that under.

Like when they said dropped from a boss event? There’s a couple of dragon ones, and I think Fractals might have a boss or 11 in there.
It got found mid-Fractal run, posted in the party chat, laughed at, and went off the the TP for his T3 Cultural armor. I own a Carrion Destroyer Torch, it’s equipped on me right this moment, and you can’t even find any Destroyer Torch up on the TP last I checked. I guess I don’t have one then.

I tried to shed some light on this thing, since a bunch of you guys were screaming about it in the last ANet stream for some reason. Decided “Hey, lets go put in my input since this is something I remember” and then shunned off; even with the guildie who found it himself getting called a liar. I’ve seen it get looted, saw him put it up on the TP, and watched him dye his sparkly new helm with the profits. Other guildies there will say the same (save for watching him dye the armor, I usually just help with color recommendations while everyone else does their own bank/TP runs).
If this was a single player adventure game, I’m sure it would lie hidden beyond the Riddle of the Sphinx; but its an MMO. Precisely an MMO that can’t even hide Legendary Precursors somewhere outside of an RNG Mystic Toilet.

Please look at tp harder. Also did a little digging, they said SPECIFIC (rare) boss, not any boss.

That image doesnt do much good; after 2 days since I made the Torch & it wasn’t on the TP, I stopped looking. Lets use another example then… the Legendary Focus: Minstrel. It doesn’t appear to be on the TP as of typing this sentence, but there’s been a thread about showcasing it and a couple youtube videos using it.
So in short, don’t use the TP as a means to gauge if something exists, as it’s pretty unreliable.

Also edit: Of course they’d say a specific boss. Little ol’ Corrupted Wolfmaster doesn’t drop a Glorious Chest. Nor does that giant Kol in eastern Harathi. Or the various Krait Witches I’ve seen around. So by definition, Fractal/Dungeon bosses & Dragons are indeed specific bosses (and boy talk about rare, it takes 10 minutes for that champ to respawn in Wayfarer, where there’s only about 6 dragons a day!).

Did any of those pics/videos show them posting it on the tp or just in use/inventory.

EDIT: The point everyone is trying to make is that items have to be posted on tp at least once before buy offers can be made, or so that the items can be seen on tp.

Wisteria drops from the Giant Grub in Caledon Forest (Unique Drop – Apparently forgeable, but without proof.)
Breath of Kralkatorrik drops from Shatterer
There is a unique drop from Tequatl and Jormag’s Claw, but I don’t recall their names.

YES. There are unique weapons that can drop from a single enemy.

There are other items too:
Colossus Fang, Claw of the Howling King, Bloodstone Shard… etc.

Precursors are NOT these exotics, nor are the named exotic armours, as they are generic, low-chance world exotics.

Point 1) An item cannot appear on the TP unless it has been LISTED once. This is why legendaries were never searchable until recently, and why Final Rest is not there (It may very well have been found, by someone who used it and never came onto the forums to realize how valuable it is). Clearly noone has listed

Point 2) The devs said “specific (rare) boss”, and “LARGE boss chest”. Just in case you didn’t check a dictionary, specific means: “Specific: restricted to a particular individual, situation, relation, or effect <a disease specific to horses>”. I.e. It will come from one source (Akin to Wisteria). Also note that fractal bosses are in no way, shape or form, RARE.

Point 3) If he truly found it, and listed it, he’d be pretty kitten dumb for listing it for 8g when there are ZERO on the TP (meaning he can set the price). IF he did, he could have googled “Final Rest GW2” and seen how much people want it. Easy 400g.

Point 4) As in the rest of my post above, some bosses DO drop unique loot, available only in 1 place.

Point 5) Final point… If someone has truly found it, SCREENSHOT IT, otherwise you are just going to be labelled a troll as is happening here.

There is a SLIM chance that it was posted on the TP, but that the item is bugged from showing up as being posted/sold. One of the MF recipes (the scepter eye thingy) was bugged on the TP for almost a month: the only way to see it was if you owned it AND you posted it on the TP(ie: the only people who could see that it existed were those who were trying to sell it, so no sales lol).

In reality though, they are most likely confused with what they found or simply lying. People do fractals out the whazzoo, if that’s where his “friend” found it…yea I doubt it. I’ve done ~800 fractals alone and never seen it nor heard of anyone else finding it(have seen some sellable exotics though).

Its actually the top of the dome where that skillpoint is with the giant eye, its sticking out of the ground above it. you have to do some crazy jumping to get behind the mountain. the green mist is from the statues in there. I didnt see any mobs , it looks very unfinished like they never thought you would be back there. there is also a spot kinda west of the arah steps hidden in the back with strange glowing lights. Im not on now or i would take a screeny. But they look like they are sticking out the the top in a similar way. I wonder if here is anything beneath there. same with the way that dome is sticking out the top there. they are like long moving beams of light with sparkles. Would look like they are highlightning something if you saw it from below where they are but they just go down into the rock for no reason.

I say we raid Anet’s headquarters and demand a location for the staff drop!

I be that if any normal person did find it and knew what it was , they are probably trying to save up enough money to post it on the tp and keeping their mouth shut about where it drops and just farming that spot. Lets face it the majority of players probably have less than 50 gold to their names. I know if I found it and was gonna sell it , I would have trouble getting enough money to list the kitten thing.

Does the champion risen lich in Sparkfly Fen spawn a chest? I’ve never seen the event work right, but it strikes me as meeting the criteria of a “rare boss” and is thematically sound.

Interestingly, there was some mention that the new class specific box-rewards for laurels would be used to get some rare skins into our hands that are currently gated behind RNG.

I’ve read player say it takes a long time to get Escort Warmaster Leddron event to start (read some say “wait an hour after beating the 3 in catacombs”), and just wanted to share an unexpected experience. After doing the destroy coffins & beat the 3 (noble, wraith, abomination) in the Catacombs, I got the helicopter into the air. Went to the swamp and the anti-aircraft gun was not targetable. I thought I’d have to wait for it to become targetable/event started, but I rained fire (AOE) with my Elem on it while it was untargetable and it changed to targetable (“did that just happen?”) and the anti-aircraft event ended when the AA gun was destroyed. ….could be coincidence, but so very odd, seemed an AOE on the AA gun started the event. Warmaster showed up, with basically no wait.

If all the other events have been done and the AA gun event in the swamp is not active, try AOEing the AA gun.
Good luck with the Champ Abomination. Champ can’t jump; if looking at Champ from front when he spawns, there is a rock slab on his right, a player can jump up to the different elevation; Champ has to run around to get u; jump up, dodge down, jump up, repeat. Bought time for a player to be resed this way (was only 3 of us. we still wiped). /shakefist@ Champ

What about Jumping Puzzle chests instead of dynamic events?

Some JP ends with something like a boss.
Collapsed Observatory, Vizier’s Tower, Pig Iron Quarry and Craze’s Folly comes to mind.

I’ve done this event quite a few times so I pretty much learned all its requirements. First the event will only trigger after the coffins have respawned that’s the start of the chain, after the coffins 3 veterans will spawn they must be defeated. After this the main way to trigger is to destroy the 3 anti-air risen guns to the west of balthazaar temple, this should trigger it, but you may also have to rez the team from the crashed chopper south of where the champion giant walks. Then the anti-air craft risen gun of the event will become a target and you can destroy it.

The event can easy be soloed, the champ abomination is not so tough solo, you just have to let the pact members die because the abomination will scale up with them and become much tougher, after that just circle around it, avoid knockdown, have a stunbreak and its gg. When with a group, the guy that he’s following will have to run like a headless chicken because his frenzy is quite unforgivable.

Champ ooze is easy ranged you just have to zig-zag its attack, you can also melee but it has a knockout combo that can put you down so you have to watch out for that.

Finally the Eye is a little tough solo because of its adds and it’s healing, just remember to interrupt the second it starts to heal.

I stopped looking for Final Rest for the time being – I’m currently farming/saving for Eye of Rodgort, but so many powerful bloods… I finally just broke down and bought Deathwish (couldn’t take the look of Bramblethorne anymore), so that means we’ll probably have Final Rest soon, of course.

Ok so how about this. I was looking at achievements list for no reason and I see a “Bosses” section. I look at it and one of the achievements is called “Kill the Hydra Queen”. Upon looking into it (on wiki) not only is this one of the few events that give a glorious chest, but that boss is RANDOM, which could be the reason we haven’t seen the staff drop. If I’m correct that’s a pirate boss. Her name is also Admiral Taidha Covington, so someone took the time to nick name her hydra queen. And where did we use to find Hydras? In Ascalon, along side, none other then gargoyles. O.O
A rare pirated boss, with an ascalon related nick name. Maybe she’s the one that we should be farming. Or maybe I’m just too tired and should go to sleep. Anyway it’s worth a shot.

I’ve been following this thread for a long time because i like reading all the theories and the hunting. The other day remembered… what about those large group events on WvW like the big tree on EB? I don’t think WvW people farm those chest and they are lvl 80 :/

But are those rare?

My guess is that it’s in the chest after defeating Champion Rhendak the Crazed. He’s the final boss of a little-completed mini-dungeon that spawns a large chest afterward. He’s also a ghost, who you put to rest in underwater crypts. If someone gets it, please send me 25 gold of your profits. IGN: Nevets Crimsongear.

Also, it’s level 26 so I bet very few 80s came back to do it. Why would they? There is no achievement for it, there’s a pre-event to even get into the dungeon, and you may need a party to get past the (often bugged) gargoyle flame heads. All of these factors are huge disincentives for doing the dungeon…

Of all the other posts in the thread, I think the hydra girl is probably the next best guess. Just because she’s “rare” in that she’s one of the only bosses to not have a consistent spawn.

By thinking “It got to be related to the name, the gargoyle or something! It must be a hint!” We are simply just limiting the search, and i think thats bad. I hihgly doubt Anet was like: “OK, this weapon is special! We have to make it so its hard to get, and it will be dropped from *. The staff will be called final rest, so people can get a hint at where it is”

So, my point is: we shouldnt be searching for gargoyles, or stuff thats related to “Final rest” all bosses might drop it. Lets say it drops from the shatterer (Which is doesnt, since his farmed like crazy) but hey, NOBODY think it does, simply because its impossible to related him to the staff. But look at tequatl. he drops these sylvari flower kitten… How the heck is tequatl related to sylvari flowers?

My bets are this:

By thinking “It got to be related to the name, the gargoyle or something! It must be a hint!” We are simply just limiting the search, and i think thats bad. I hihgly doubt Anet was like: “OK, this weapon is special! We have to make it so its hard to get, and it will be dropped from *. The staff will be called final rest, so people can get a hint at where it is”

So, my point is: we shouldnt be searching for gargoyles, or stuff thats related to “Final rest” all bosses might drop it. Lets say it drops from the shatterer (Which is doesnt, since his farmed like crazy) but hey, NOBODY think it does, simply because its impossible to related him to the staff. But look at tequatl. he drops these sylvari flower kitten… How the heck is tequatl related to sylvari flowers?

Not limiting the search, just starting where there may be a higher chance. Obviously if it’s not there then we look elsewhere.

Here is my second guess for you all: Captain Rotbeard in cursed shore, at the Death’s Anthem waypoint/mini dungeon in the far south. Here is why:

Linsey said: “The only hint I will give on Final Rest is this: You cannot make it. It is dropped from a LARGE boss chest.”

But Jeffrey said: “It’s exactly as Linsey stated previously—it’s a loot drop from a specific (rare) boss.”

Notice the difference in wording… Linsey says it’s from a chest, but Jeffrey says it’s a loot drop from a boss.

Captain Rotbeard spawns when you open the HUGE chest in the ship. He literally is a boss that pops out of a chest. This reconciles both statements. Linsey may have been trying to throw us off when she said it was from the chest-maybe it’s from the boss that spawns from the chest. No one farms that boss because he’s surrounded by a bunch of adds and is far from any wp, making the chances of the exotic dropping rather rare. He also talks about dying and returning to his resting spot or something like that.

My guess is that it’s in the chest after defeating Champion Rhendak the Crazed. He’s the final boss of a little-completed mini-dungeon that spawns a large chest afterward. He’s also a ghost, who you put to rest in underwater crypts. If someone gets it, please send me 25 gold of your profits. IGN: Nevets Crimsongear.

Also, it’s level 26 so I bet very few 80s came back to do it. Why would they? There is no achievement for it, there’s a pre-event to even get into the dungeon, and you may need a party to get past the (often bugged) gargoyle flame heads. All of these factors are huge disincentives for doing the dungeon…

Of all the other posts in the thread, I think the hydra girl is probably the next best guess. Just because she’s “rare” in that she’s one of the only bosses to not have a consistent spawn.

After reading up on the wiki, this theory has a ring of truth to it. At least as much as some of the others. I’m going to give this a better look ingame. Also, how long is this thread going to remain in the “Crafting” section? I realize it was moved here, but really. This item is not crafted. “General Discussion” was more appropriate.

This is not universally true. Some legendaries that have never been listed have a page on the trading post (like legendary trident), you can tell this from both the trading post websites and the fact that you can’t put in buy orders for them until someone lists one. Yet some legendaries that haven’t been listed don’t appear (like legendary spear). It appears to be almost random.

I think people are thinking to hard on this one.. I dont think the name, style or something with the staff has to do with the location it is dropped. People have been farming all the events that is related to the staff for months now… its not from any of them…

According to the hints, with big chest etc. i am going to farm the huge giant wurm in caldeon forest. Rarely any level 80’s do that event, yet it drops a chest just as bigged and packed with loot as the dragon chests

Post got deleted so I’ll say it again.

It’s not that people are thinking too hard, it’s just that we need a better hint than what we’ve got, people are not gonna go around doing every meta-event that rewards a chest on all zones for something that might or might not be there with a ridiculous chance of dropping.

As for the Wurm event, plenty of 80s do it because twilight arbor is right beside it.
