Q:
Looking at the basic crafting guides, they all follow the same idea: craft the components, discover fine quality until you unlock master. Then craft master insignia items, discover until you get the next tier.
Checking around a few guides, it seems that you need about 12 different discoveries – without crafting any components – to reach the next sub-tier. Each sub tier is 25 levels, so each discovery averages to 2.04 levels. But with 4 fine insignia available (not including the first 3), That makes 16 discoveries.
Now to my question…
Fine Insignia use less crafting materials than Masterwork, and the lower tier items are still orange after reaching the next tier. If you assume 1 Masterwork = 3 fine (8 mats/3 mats + thread) wouldn’t it be more efficient to:
Craft the 3 ignored insignia (3 mats x 4 types = 12 discovery) until no longer efficient
Craft the 4 preferred insignia (4 mats x 4 types =16 discovery) until no longer efficient
Craft the masterwork (8 mats x ? types = next tier)
Or is the gain from jumping straight into the next tier despite using more mats > using up all the fine quality discoveries first?

No one knows if it would work?
The guides usually also dont account for the resale value of the stuff you craft.
If you take this into consideration and think for yourself, you can save alot of money or make profit while leveling a craft.
Are you accounting for the different amounts of crafting exp gained for the different item rarities?
