Q:

Greetings,

As the topic title says I want to talk about gaining the precusor.
As all know by now, gaining the precursor is something really hard to achieve.
I’m currently at my last phase of achieving the legendary, the only part that I am missing is the Precursor. I currently played over 640 hours this game, done plenty of dragon events, dungeons and alot of grinding to gain my materials for the legendary, aswell to hope the precusor (dusk in my case) would drop.

I find it sad, but also incomprehensible that after so many hours the precursor is still not at my grip. This has nothing to do with skills or playing x-amount of time to gain it. It all has to do with luck or gold. I already spended over 100 gold rares to gain it at the mystic forge as example.

Luckly Arenanet heared our calling and frustrations and they announced a new way to gain the precursor for certain. They call it atm ‘treasure hunting’. I really appreciate they listen to us, but I’m also wondering will this patch still be for this year? I really doubt many people will have the pathience to wait long for the precursor if they already have all the materials.

That’s why I’m wondering if someone knows something more about when they will release this. I and many other would really appreciate it, if we could have some more information about this topic. Aswell about the other legendaries arenet will introduce in the near future. I really would be disapointed after spending so much time, this long grind was for nothing.

Anyway thanks in advance for reading this.

Friendly regards,
A Guild Wars 2 player and fan!

As far as i know it won’t be for a few more patches. It’s a very delicate thing to handle, so it has to be done right the first time. Eventually though someone will make a wiki for it and it will probably lose most of the “hunting” charm.

I’m quite excited to see how they will implement this new system. I really do hope and pray that the journey will be as epic as the outcome

It’s still going to be a fair while before it’s ready but that’s ok. Good work takes time and I would rather they take their time with it and make it right, than rush it and make it worse than it already is. Very exciting stuff. It would be cool if they could wrap some lore around the hunt and immerse us in an epic quest.

I’ve always found this precursor business funny. You would imagine from a lore perspective, that the precursor would be one of the first ingredients we’d get, so we can at least use.

Gregorius: This sword is impressive. I shall name it Dawn because it will herald a new light for Tyria!

Guildmate: Awesome sword, gonna use it now?

Gregorius: Noooooooo….. I’m going to reforge it!

I’m glad they’re putting in a scavenger hunt because awesome weapons should be obtain by awesome means. (Not to say getting it as a random gift from a Djinn isn’t awesome, it’s just getting it is the problem).

It would be hard work (but awesome) if each precursor had it’s own personal story/quest(line?) in order to achieve it. Involving scavenger hunting, interesting boss fights, etc.

i agree with sion. if each legendary had a personal story line to it it would make me feel like ive actually achieved a legendary and ultimate weapon that can tie into the world of tyria

Treasure hunt? What you mean with treasure hunt, they drop randomly from mobs or a random chest, pure lottery style, as always, didn’t turn at all into a Treasure Hunt, who call it treasure hunt, even making you think they listen to us
And honestly, i still think the scavenger hunt is went into trashbin and abandoned.

I believe when they implement getting precursors with the “scavenger hunt” they will have it so you can forge it with mats.So Im pretty sure they will be costing an extraordinary amount of mats like 500 globs,500 t6 mats etc….. As far as I got so far the cores of GW2 is “farming money” & “luck” because without money you cant get anything ingame and without luck you cant get money,so I dont really have my hopes up, that the famous “svavenger hunt” will follow some other path by being fun with hard tasks to do.

I’m willing to bet that this “scavenger hunt” or “treasure hunt” would be somewhat like how it was done in Guild Wars 1 with the Black Moa Chick minipet: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Black_Moa_Chick

Simply put, first you get an item of interest (in the case of the Black Moa, it was a journal). After investigating the item (reading the journal), that’s when your scavenger hunt began. You would end up traveling through different places of the world to gather these materials, and then eventually forging the item as such at a certain location.

Maybe there would be a reason to do Sorrow’s Embrace story mode again— after all, in GW1, you had to have the Iron Forgeman pour hot liquid metal just to hatch your Black Moa.

I would tie the Hunt into a sort of a personal story with a totally randomized seed so no one could ever make a specific step-by-step guide how to get your precursor stuff. And the hunt should definitely have to be something that really tests a player’s mettle… beyond just fighting. Maybe a clever clue system which assembles a series of randomized locations and clues how to find them? Somehow I think if they make it just really tough to get because it’s in the belly of a dragon or something, it will get farmed sooner or later.

To prevent farming, they can make them soul bound on receiving them.

The current precursor market will crash.

Yeah, but you also have to make sure that the legendary weapons are actually, you know, legendary. As in, you don’t see one on every corner. So acquisition of materials should be a long but more importantly, difficult process. Not grueling, like collecting a bazillion Ancient Rat Tails, but difficult.

Which ultimately means it must be wiki-proof. It must be unpredictable and unique for every player. That’s the only way to keep it out of the reach of teeming masses and still interesting enough not to make you wanna bash your head in when actually trying to get one.

Gaudrath, I see where you’re getting on this one. Making it “wiki-proof” might be tricky since once a good sample of players have figured out certain possible outcomes of each step of the journey (whether that is 5 possibilities or 500 possibilities per step is besides the point), then it no longer becomes wiki-proof. The guide would be all over the Wiki, Guru, Reddit, and Dulfy complete with a full-blown flowchart showing which step may lead to which step and so on and so forth. Making it wiki-proof could be possible, but that would require so many different variables that I could possibly see it as some kind of nightmare for someone who has to code it.

Instead, it just has to be hard (but interesting), long, and would test the meddle of those wanting to pursue the precursor. That means incorporating many facets of PvE such as: Dungeons, Jumping Puzzles, Dynamic Events (including World Bosses), and even Mini-games (Polymock, Keg Brawl, Mad King Says, etc). There are many assorted chests around the world so those might be incorporated into the hunt. Jumping puzzles might fit into the lore of some of the precursors. And for dungeons, we might end up exploring certain areas that are often skipped over by most dungeon runners (speed-runners and normal runners alike).

Going back to GW1, I know doing Sorrow’s Furnace was the hardest part, which included a bunch of different precursor quests that had to be completed in order to actually encounter the Iron Forgeman. It might be possible that some dungeons might incorporate an additional path that may be more difficult than the original paths, but to access this path, the original paths have to be completed first.

Just a few ideas to toss in there.

I don’t think you will see it on every corner, the materials and commitment required are no joke. The precursor is only about 25% of the whole.

because making it a sure way of getting a legendary will truly reflects “legendary” status. To me it’s more like “welfare” epic for everyone. What better time to do it during Xmas, eh?

I really hope they will still put it in the game this year.
At this moment I got all the materials for the Twilight, and I’m waiting on a world drop or have luck with the MF. If not I’m taking a break for my long grind I did for all the materials. I guess that is the best choice? Because I rather let me push in the lava by a Grawl then grind another 340g to make an exploiter rich…

I doubt someone can confirm it will be released this year or not?

This. I thought this would be how the scavenger hunt would go. Hell at the end of it you had to fight the iron forgeman!

The biggest flaw in this “If everyone had it then it won’t be legendary” is that by the nature of an MMO, everyone has access to everything. The very fact that there are more than one of Sunrise, Frostfang, Bifrost, etc. takes away their legendary status. The same with “you are the one and only true hero of tyria”. This is the point where people’s imaginations kick and they imagine that they and only they alone possess these thing. A legendary artifact should be guaranteed, so long as you can decipher the treasure map, dodge the traps, and slay the giant beast at the end. Random drops don’t make legendaries feel legendary

As soon as legendaries become “free” or much easier to get, expect a huge rise in the rest of the mats prices. And you can be sure that I’ll be one of the firsts to buyout the whole market leaving you with 1g per powerful blood.
