So in order for simple balance, the following change needs to happen for ascended and legendary weapons:

Either;

Two-handed weapons are given two infusion slots to compensate for using dual 1h items (or infusion on two handed weapons gaining +10 instead of +5)

OR

Only 1 one-handed weapon’s infusion may work.

Unless this is implemented then we will see an imbalance, particularly with fractals and dual wielders have a higher AR than two 1 handed weapons. I’m concerned this hasn’t been implemented, but if it is not it is highly imbalanced as hell.

This must happen to provide fairness in fractals. 5AR is often the difference between life and death at level 48. It adds up to a whole 6% per tick.

I strongly encourage ArenaNet developers to review and implement this change if it isn’t in the update. This is of crucial importance for fractals balance.

In an effort to stay on topic, the only reason I can see why they haven’t made two upgrade slots for two-handed weapons is because all gear has only one upgrade slot period.

It will be interesting to see what they do with ascended weaponry and armor. Maybe they will finally alleviate this situation. Or at least give an equal stat bonus from two-handed weapons when compared to using two weapons.

You are correct. This was a technical drawback from the initial implementation of the system that we did not have the bandwidth undo. In order to do I now would require a significant rework of many other things. Not something I would rule out but something we would weigh considerably which means don’t expect it soon.

What? This is kittened. Why should a player using one handed weapons be allowed +10 stats and +10 Agony resist when a two hand player be given +5.

This provides a serious disadvantage to certain classes and set-ups, in particular in fractals. I would expect that for 1h weapons only 1 infusion would work, otherwise it’s a huge imbalance.

I would wonder if they could maybe rectify that problem simply by adding one and two-handed infusions/sigils that can only go in their respective weapon type. Though, I don’t believe they currently distinguish upgrade slots based on weapon type, but it might be a way to fix it.

However, it is disappointing to have 2h weapons inherently less valuable for AR than two one-handed weapons.

That would be my initial thought process, or even just making the infusion set a certain amount on that weapon type or just set only 1h to function like sigils do, with the exception of stack weapons.

I don’t want to see a 1h meta for 48s., though you’ll probably die if you get hit anyway.

the perk of a 2 handed weapon is very high auto attack dmg.

maybe they let us infuse the rest of our current ascended gear to and be over cap for the next bunch of lvls. it can only go so high.

Very high auto-attack damage? As a way to balance a missing sigil? Even IF the high damage was the case (which it is not for most classes), it wouldn’t balance the build options with a second sigil slot.

Maybe a better system, would be not to add a 2nd slot to the weapon. but to add a 2 handed specific sigils/infusions etc.

That way, from a mechanics standpoint it wouldn’t have to alter how the weapons adjust their damages etc. and since their already creating new sigils/infusions/etc it’d be easier to make something new, in an ever changing system than to change a static system? Thoughts?

Easy fix would be to make 2-h weapons infusable, so they have +5 agony resistance on the item, in addition to the possible infusion slot. If it can be done with rings, surely it could be done for these weapons.

I’ve been wondering if these ascended weapons will even have infusion slots. If they do, does this mean they wont have sigils? Will they have both? To me I think sigils are more important, and I would be dissapointed if i couldn’t have them on my ascended weapon.

How much agony resistance do you really need? I’m at lvl 40 fractals, and while agony is very important, most of it can be avoided except maw. At lvl 40 everything hits so hard, the agony isn’t usually what kills me if i die. Sure having over 45 agony would mean you could advance past lvl 49, but how high do you need to go & how much extra rewards could there be? I really have no desire to advance past lvl 40 without some new rewards to make it worthwhile.

Think about it for ascended armor, another 30 agony. Seems excessive to me. Some builds wouldn’t be as effective without runes. So i think these new ascended items will have runes and sigils, and that’s what makes me think that maybe infusion slot might not be included.

Honestly i could careless about agony resistance anyways, because i got my rings and back long ago, I’ve already got many of fractal weapons and don’t need any more. Fractals just do not have much to offer me.

Honestly, I’m surprised they haven’t enabled dual sigils in two-handed weapons yet. It’s been a flaw in the fundamentals of the game since launch, and it’s simply been constantly ignored. I can understand that it would take some major rework, but the longer it’s left the more expensive it will be.

Fortunately I don’t think it is causing any gigantic balance problems, but it does make 2 handed weapons inherently weaker. The only other alternative for this is to make two handed weapons more powerful naturally to compensate for the lack of an additional sigil/infusion slot, but that’s making things needlessly complicated.

IMO, this entire limitation on two handed weapons is another sign that they released the game too dang early.
