Has anyone experimented which items have the richest yield of salvaging globs of ecto? thanks in advance

It’s all gambling. Sometimes salvaging lv 70+ golds can net you 1 ecto, sometimes it can give you 3.

Thanks – but does the yield increase for lvl 80 items or is it total RNG from 70-80 with no success scaling?

I’d like to know this myself. I’m just getting started on ecto farming, and I only have a few so far… Haven’t noticed much of a trend yet.

Where do you farm? I’m still trying to work out the best way to do it.

best way to do it is level up a tradeskill and make a yellow staff, sword, boot whatever then break it down with the high level salvage kit
Farming events you can do as well but you arent guaranteed any good items to salvage

As an example I do artificer I make yellow tridents and then salvage them
As said above even with the best salvage kit you could get 0-3
I see no difference between a level 70 yellow and a level 80 orange

Re: crafting yellows yourself – is it not more economic just to buy them off the TP (~20s) if you don’t have the mats readily available, or are you saying you’ll generally be better off because you have a shot at getting more than 1?

It depends, if you have random mats then it’s cheaper to craft. If you have to buy ALL mats off TP, it’s cheaper to just buy the rare off TP.

Occasionally some of the craft mats may be cheap enough you can craft them for around 18s but the majority of the main mats are going for 1.50s+ each and you need 15 + other mats making it break even at best.

Crafting is free. Sure you can buy some things and break them down and that may be faster. If you can find a good deal go for it. Bu when I farm the rare mats I get tons of mats to make stuff
Sometimes I’ll buy the extra stuff like if I need 2 scales or what not.

So yea I guess it would be faster but not as economic

It is more economic. I can craft like 4-5 yellows for less than a gold. I average 6-7 ectos from 5 items. This is considerably better than paying like 1.4g buying them on the AH. The only thing you have to worry about is that it is a gamble. You could get zero, but you could also get 3 from one item. And it feels like it averages out at 1-2 per item when doing them in bulk.

You gathered the materials so crafting is free right? Right?!

Even if you go out and gather the materials it does not mean its free. You spent money to travel around to gather the materials plus you spent time.

Time = money my friend.

And don’t forget opportunity cost. If you use mats you could sell for 15s and make something that costs 5s in the end, you just lost 10s, in addition to the time, and the cost of gathering tools.
