Looks like its time to buy your own while they are still cheap. They were around 4silver until today, last I checked, they are around 7s89cu and going up.

I’ve seen this reddit thread about ascended armors and it might have caused this. Not sure if I can link the reddit thread here.

good lord. why do people buy scrap for 7s89 copper. When they can buy bolt of gossamer for 8 silver.

gossamer scrap will be the core item to make the insignia for initial leveling of tailor/armorsmith to 500…

just like the ncient wood is used to make inscription…

Yea but they use bolts, not scraps. The only use for scraps would be to level up your crafting a bit from the Xp from that (caps out pretty quickly). Whatever though, I’ve been telling people to stock up on cloth since the first day when I saw what we needed for the leather. If the T2-4 stuff hasn’t gone up tons I would stock up on that before it does.

of course…. still you need scrap to make bolt….

Refining scraps will get you to 425, if it is the same as weapons.

or you can refine oricalcum or leather instead.

Since you make money crafting oricalcum ore and leather. But you loss money crafting gossamer.

^ The only one that wouldn’t apply to would be tailoring. I see no real reason for this sudden price spike in just gos scraps lol

I think that’s the main reason why bolt of gossamer is much cheaper. Since it is more efficient to promote the bolt instead of scrap.

And if people are silly enough to buy gossamer scrap, they probably silly enough to check the price of gossamer bolt too.

The bolts just adjust to the higher scrap prices slower and right now, scraps are more valuable than just 50% of the bolt price because for the fact that you will get craft exp for refining it.

Usually refined common mats are worth a little more than 200% (300% for planks, 400% for soft planks) of their unrefined mats because they occupy less storage space and it takes time to craft them.

The price for gossamer bolts will level out to that equilibrium eventually, at the latest, when all the scraps are refined into bolts, once ascended armor crafting came around and people start to need more bolts for crafting.

^ I doubt it very much. You can just promote your own gossamer for very cheap.

The main reason for bolt to be cheap is probably because people just don’t do any research.

The type of people that dont’ know about promotion probably won’t bother to check the refined price.

The truth is you can get gossamer scrap for 5 silver even if silk scrap is 25 copper. Just promote bolt of silk, all you need to do is use a skill point.

But that still don’t mean promotion is very profitable. Since you do need to spend a skill point, and buying and reselling does cost 15% TP cut. But it is definately much cheaper if you use it for personal use.

Well, silk’ll likely be used in the tailoring equivalent to mithrillium and globs of elder essence (spool of silk weaving thread). With probable cost at 50 bolts per piece it is going to eat into silk reserves pretty fast.

But you can get silk far easier than the other cloths. People are also salvaging everything to add to their MF. Silk will be the least of our worries. Seriously… GL farming wool, cotton, and linen at 80…

Been telling my guild since ascended weapons came out the price of cloth will triple once ascended armor comes out. No way to increase the supply of cloth on the market other than farming mobs. The cloth market is very finite in supply and cloth is use for ALL armor types.

I got 7250 gossamer bolts a few days ago, lucky me.

i’d like to see gossamer rich nodes added to LA just so there is finally some risk in TP speculation :|

I told everyone to stock up too. My friends bought thousands each.

Bought some stacks of gossamer,leather when they were cheap and also invested in 150g worth of insignias also.
may have to place some orders for orbs if jewellry is getting the same treatment also

Thats why you never follow or ask advice on the forum on short term investment opportunities.

Only mindless people would have bought silk in order to promote it for quick coin.
But those mindless people riding the champ train and complaining about their stacks of Bloodstone Dust in their banks have too much Skill Points anyways to waste.

If they want to get rid of them for next to no profit, thats fine with me.
I get an average of 50 silver ROI on my skillpoints.

Just make your own guild, buy some influence with gold and research guild storage.

IIRC, it takes a little over a week to research and costs under 3g to buy the influence needed for 50 slots of extra storage.

Even though you cant deposit account or soulbound items in there, you wont need to pay the ~30g you need to get 600 gems for 30 more slots of private bank space.

As someone already mentioned, gbanks are good alternatives.

Don’t forget to utilize free space on alts with 15 slot bags, as well as refining if you are getting tight on space.

I actually bought a bunch. I just expect people to know what promotion is so I didn’t buy more than what I should have.

But the lower tier cloth is so obvious I should have bought more. It is pretty much guaranteed to go up. You can’t use that for mystic forge.

Way too many people speculating on the clothes right now. There is going to be way too big of an influx when people try to unload these things. It won’t be as big of a cash cow as the ore/wood was when ascended weapons hit.

it’s going to be really funny when ascended armor comes out in mid 2014 and people are like “my gossamer has disintegrated from lack of use! why did I stock up so early!?”

…and then go back down from people converting ectos->dust+MF until the big ecto spike.

Just from people buy a ton of cloth today I have made a few hundred gold. Did not expect people to buy so much cloth just off of the idea ascended armor will come out soon. This has been more profitable for me than the Bazaar and Anet has not done a ascended armor preview yet. Once the more casual players see a preview prices will increase even more.

Consider this…

All 3 armor craftings will need t2-6 cloths. Tailoring will need 2x the number as the rest as Armorsmithing will use metal and leatherworking will use leather as well.

The 3 weapon crafts shared wood. Wood spiked the highest because of this, but we were able to go farm nodes. That helped mitigate the price spike. You could easily go get some yourself using a node map. There are NO nodes for cloth. No wool, cotton, or linen plants. You gotta go kill things to get it.

It is VERY hard to get t2-4 cloth if you’re 80. You can farm it from bags and get it from salvage drops. That’s it. Getting it from those sources would require a large time investment to get the hundreds of bags you would need to farm from different zones to pop every day to get the cloth you would need. So the supply won’t increase like it did with wood or metal (everyone went and farmed it).

We’ll have a massive increase in demand with no increase in supply since people need it, but very few will go farm for it. IMO goss won’t go up as much as the t2-4 stuff will (percentage wise) because we can still get it from salvaging our own 80 drops.

Salvage and bags are not a sue way to get what you want – too much RNG involved. Also, bags require massively more farming than nodes to get comparable quantities (salvage works equally well for ore and wood as for cloth and leather). Promotion is an option, but if current crafts are any indication, you will need silk by the truckload (as well as huge amounts of t2-t4 cloth) which may increase its price as well (possibly pushing the promotion cost into the undesirable range).

…aaand Anet decided to make situation even worse by increasing refinement cost for t5 cloth and leather. This time i can’t even guess what they were thinking.

I’m just happy I randomly refined my silk the other day. Too bad, I didn’t refine my leather too :/

Predicted this weeks ago after seeing ori and ancient wood spike when ascended weapons were introduced. Bought a ton of gossamer for 1.2s and leather for 30 c.

When this is over I can probably rightclick a legendary…
