tl;dr: This topic is directed at the devs, in the hope that someone would take pity and give us some updated information around the precursor situation and what has been done, what is still in progress and what is still in planning phase.
The last ‘new’ news we received around the precursor problem was in November when it was stated that the scavenger hunt should not be expected in the Jan/Feb/Mar game updates. It was subsequently explained that it was in design phase but was not being actively worked on, at that time. It was also explained that attempts will be made to add a chance to obtain these weapons to various parts of the game.
Now, fast forward a few months and we’ve reached a point in time where some further feedback would be greatly appreciated, even if it is to say that the solutions being planned are still a while off and to shed some light on the areas in game where they added a chance to get these weapons.
So, Anet, what do you say? Good news or bad, it will be better than no news at all.

They already said it’s not being developed... and they also said any announcement would crash the market, so they do not plan to give players a "heads-up" - therefore it will more than likely be a "surprise, legendary precursor hunt introduced" on the day of a patch scenario.
If they do a “surprise, legendary hunt” players that spent 1k gold on it will hang themselves and the other ones that want to wait it out can wait for months or even years when A-Net decide that want to “suprise” them.
im pretty sure there are alot of players out there that like me are sat with everything but the pre cursor and find it frustrating that the method of getting the pre cursor is so boring. i dont mind the cost of stuff, surely there could be just a recipe for it? i dont care if it took a few months to grind out materials for another recipe, it would still feel like im progressing towards it at least!
somehow we do progressing towards it by grinding gold but it is so meh. I was “in range” of buying precursor few times already but always when I put buy order like 10-30g below asking price the next day price went up by 100g or more. Starting to think it could be impossible for me to grind enough gold to buy one with my limited time to play.
Besides I do not feel comfortable with buying one.

I don’t expect there to be one for the current legendaries. They dubbed with the idea, got some feedback from the forums and maybe they will implement one for the next set of legendaries. That way people will be able to get a legendary while those who already have one will not complain about how it became “easy” to get.
All the posts on the scavenger hunt were just to get some feedback on the idea, rather than signalling the intention to actually implement one for the current legendaries. That’s why they have also toned down the announcements on the scavenger hunt; it’s not coming.
Meanwhile they keep adding more and more reward chests that provide a small chance to get a precursor. In the end this should lead to a gradual increase in the number of precursors available and thus a steady and controlled decline in their prices. This is the strategy ANet seems to prefer, so I wouldn’t wait for a paradigm shift to be honest.
I don’t know why I continue to bother with this kitten. Really. They said publicly that they want to improve communication, be more open going forward… all crap. THOUSANDS of legitimate questions being asked on the forums daily, about important things, things that matter to players. Without reply.
And the questions, like the one in this thread, is not earth shatteringly difficult to answer.

It’s really easy to keep people semi-informed without giving too much away.

Do not expect it for very very very very long time (but hope i’m wrong since I’m from “Fellowship of the %75” for months).
A.Net cares about money like any other companies which is normal with “Buy and Free to Play” model and this model has not given us any sanction power again which is normal and they are part of huge company with very small group so this waiting time is normal too.
They can delete guilds without warning for under naming policy, forum GMs can tell “disgusts me” publicly, they can ignore or delete topics if they want for any good or bad reasons and yea this list can be really long…
But point is this is still good game around for now until another one comes out.
I don’t know why people are so impatient for this scavenger hunt to be implemented.
If you just take a minute to think about it, it becomes clear that this hunt will not be some chain of epic quests that leads to ultimate prize.
A-Net will never give you precursor for free no matter how hard/time consuming those quests will be. Whole precursor mechanic is constructed to remove large quantities of materials and gold from system.
To get it you will be asked to give insane amount of resources in each stage of hunt. At the end it will be just another tedious but sure way to get precursor you want. But it wont be easy, fast, epic or free

You could have started with the precursor, like I did. Then the rest was plain easy and relaxing. Ending with the precursor is something I really don’t get… There is like NO POINT, except being frustrated.

You make it sound as if some of us had a choice. I can’t speak for anyone else here, but I could not make enough gold to buy one, price went up faster than I could make gold. I am a pretty hard core grinder…but, like some others who want their legendary, I can only put in about 12h week into the game. So…yeah.

Furthermore, A.net acknowledged concerns, but also wants to release a proper solution in due time. Beyond that, silence is a form of communication too. Wanting a status update every other day is just asking too much.
All the vague tidbits exist and you can form an educated opinion around it. A.net cares more than any other company. That doesn’t mean you should expect developpers to lurk on the forums. That just doesn’t work.

I would prefer a dev communication, a real time fix (fix i mean fix, not overbugged trash they release, even reactivating old bugs) of TRILLION problems this game is having. Loads mmo (even junk ones) have a perfect communication with dev team and fix their game when something is wrong (expecially something extremely disappointing). Am i wrong? Look around you. 999 threads blaming billion things (skip whine or stupid request, most are serious issues). From months. Is it fixed?

Just like how they jumped the gun a week before the march update to announce the nerfing of world chests, knowing that it would influence ecto prices substantially (26s to 33s in a matter of hours). In this case, they couldn’t just wait for the “surprise” patch to kick in.
Everything Anet does that relates to the TP is deliberate. even waiting and withholding information is deliberate. It’s their only source of income now (long-term). Similar to Blizzard’s constant monitoring of Diablo 3’s auction house.
Again, completely ignore the dev post tracker we have on the forum.
Dev tracker? About scavenger hunt? I don’t ignore it. Mind to show me where are all those updates and work-in-progress-status about scavenger hunt (this is the thread’s topic here and the lack of communication i was mentioning)? We just had one Anet PR telling us “Ye..kids ye… one day.. maybe… scavenger hu … how the hell was the name that guy wrote… oh right scavenger hunt… ye..now shush and give us your money for gems”. Pff..
I wouldn’t expect this, ever. The way I see it with GW2 is what you paid for at release is all the gameplay, dungeons, and pvp currently in game. That said, the best way to create revenue now are:
1.) Lure in more players.
2.) Sell gems for novelty items in the gem store.
3.) Sell gems for players to convert to gold.
I’d imagine quite a few players get tempted to buy a few gems after going broke throwing countless rares/exotics into the mystic forge. So there’s really not a lot of incentive from their perspective to just stop that flow of money, as well as devalue a large portion of the weapons on the Trading Post by making it any easier to get legendaries.
They said it themselves its not going to be anytime soon. Stop getting your hopes up. If you want a legendary badly, you’re going to have to farm it, no other option. You don’t need a legendary, its not different than an exotic. Its a skin you have to work for, complaining over and over will get you nowhere.

I’m so tired of these generic, over-used comments every time someone mentions anything about legendaries. But I’ve come to realize that trying to have a conversation with these types of trolls are utterly pointless. :-)

March patch is here. So we are now officially in uncharted territory as far as info on the scavenger hunt goes (it was said not to expect it in the Jan/Feb/Mar updates).
Would makes you happy hearing “no plan for this year, maybe next years, when ready” ?
Oh my, the outrage that would ensure from such an announcement. Don’t you know? We, the community, are entitled to the rarest, most desired gear in the game and we’re entitled to it sooner than later.

A player worthy of an item and an epic path for a legendary weapon wasn’t on their project at all, i don’t see why we would see anything like this for years and years.

Don’t buy PR posts attempting to shush the community about this unfamous scavenger hunt. They already tried to tell you it’s on preliminary stage (maybe on paper, somewhere), far miles from the development. Persistance will not lead anywhere.

The crafting forum as a whole has been deserted by the devs for such a long time now that you start to wonder why crafting still exists in game.
I don’t want an update on like exactly when it will happen, because that would cause stuff with the economy, I sort of just want clarification that it will still be happening and not in like a years time.

On a side note, I’m writing to Anet to try and convince them to not implement the Scavenger Hunt. Precursors and Legendary weapons should be rare, and making it too easy to get would take away from the prestige of these items.
They’ve been watching since October. And who gives a kitten about shocking the precursor market… ah, the manipulators (who we’re made to believe doesn’t exist).
On the “prestige of these items” bit: Maybe, if it required any skill to get instead of mindless farming for gold and mats… or getting lucky with the mystic toilet, maybe then there would have been some “prestige” associated with these skins. Here we were, hoping that they would fix it (if only in part) to be more of a challenging questline – instead of the grindy RNG BS it is now. But, you go ahead and write your letter :-)
