My one issue with crafting is that I can’t figure out what the final product will look like.

I’m trying to make armor for my girlfriend and I (thief & mechanic), and we both enjoy getting new looks. The problem is, I’ve spend hundreds of mats getting to level 300 in leather working, yet half the time I have no idea what I’m making.

For example, I used karma points to purchase a rare recipe, then spent quite a lot of materials “discovering” a new jacket. I then previewed it and realized it looked exactly like the other jackets. The stats were good, but it was kind of a waste.

So, when I’m creating new amour sets, now can I figure out what style I’m making? Do they have all the styles available online, or in game where I can see what is available to make, and what they’re called?

Pretty much there are only three or four different styles from like 1-79 for each armor class type for the exception of race specific and such. When you hit 80 you unlock many different armor types. You can right click a item and click preview to see what it looks like. I’m pretty certain that only works after its crafted. Another method would be to google the item name of what you want to craft and I’m sure somewhere online they will have a picture of it. GW2 Wiki has several pictures up but the list is far from complete.

Kara Bune – Elementalist 80 – Tarnished Coast
Katniss Shade – Necromancer 80 – sPvp rank – 29
Emma Wolfsbane – Thief 80 – Looking for Guild

Each armor type (light/medium/heavy) have a different set look depending upon level. I believe GW2w has each level set in an image, but I haven’t checked lately and, as posted above, it changes every 80 levels or so.

If you like the look of one particular armor, get transmutation stones (by completing a map area). It allows you to keep facets of certain armors by combining the two items – say you have one item with great stats, and another that looks cool and has a good rune/sigil/whatever, but doesn’t have good stats. You can use a transmutation stone to keep the appearance and rune of the second while transmuting over the stats of the first. I use mine up pretty often.

Thanks guys.

My girlfriend and I have been transmutating the new higher stats stuff, with the style of some of the stuff we’ve found. I just wish there were better ways of determining what exactly I was making.

I suppose the “discovery” is supposed to be a surprise…I did google and found some images that should help, they’re only female versions though.

The amazing Dulfy has a visual reference for the crafted armours on her site:
