I’ve seen a lot of people comment on how easy it was to raise their crafting…what on earth am I doing wrong :S. Finding the required mats requires a huge amount of time, farming seems to be discouraged, and the prices on trading post are extremely high. How do you do it?

And yes I am maximising discovery and refining.

I felt that the copper stage of my armorsmithing was by far the hardest. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was totally new to the game, and had no clue really how to go about getting things done.

It wasn’t that bad in the end to get to 400. At some times I had help from friends (mostly cloth scraps, and occational fine materials), sometimes I just had to go farm certain mobs for an hour to get a stack for 50 (like you get vials of blood from skales, trolls, minotaurs, etc). When I had accumulated some money I just simply bought these materials from TP.

It’s a bit of a money sink. I probably spent close to 5 golds total on it from 1-400, but it’s still quite reasonable.

I pretty much did what OP suggests from 1-400 weaponsmith and 1-400 armorsmith. Only when I was nearing 400 did I buy a few mats, and that was because of a little straggling on mats.

As you’re leveling, you will do a little grinding. I’m not talking insane or anything, but mobs that have been alive longer have better loot tables and xp. Let’s say you’re in a cave and you want the nodes in there. Say there are spiders in there. Kill one. If you get bonus xp, Kill every single one of them you can find, you’ll get a lot of venom sacs because its been a while since someone last killed them. Grinding- and I use this term losely because this grind is absolutely nothing compared to other games, in such a fashion will, i promise you, eliminate your problems. Just make sure that if you kill a mob and notice he dropped some crafting mats, or say you kill three buddies together, and get mats dropping, just go medival on them and slaughter them all. I know you have some sort of AOE weapon that can get this job done quickly. Grand total, i’ve spent probably an extra hour while I was leveling doing this, and because of that one hour spaced out, i’ve never had to buy mats. Just try it.

People are farming the most expensive mats (bloods) and with the gold, craft their own stuff. That’s their easy method of leveling up. There’s also some of the clever ones who buy low, sell high, maybe even put in some artificial inflation.
