How do you keep crafting without it being a chore?
Are you not using discoveries or something? I really don’t find it’s a problem. You might have to buy like 15-20 silver worth of fine crafting mats per tier but that still adds up to only about 1-1.5g total to get to 400.
The trick is to use Discoveries, as Yukishiro said. This is easiest on Chef, because there’s a ton of different food recipes all requiring different ingredients at each tier, and you can easily craft one of each type and reach the next tier easily. But most of the other disciplines also have other items you can use to squeeze out Discovery XP. Artificers have potions, Jewelers have jewels (combining gemstones with filigrees), armor disciplines have bags and runes, and weapon disciplines have sigils and consumables.
Another trick is to skip the Fine materials completely and just buy the insignias/inscriptions directly. There is usually a glut of insignias/inscriptions on the TP, and it’s much cheaper to buy these rather than the materials required to make these insignias/inscriptions. For example, to gain a lot of crafting XP for Armorsmith, buy one of each insignia, then buy the components for a cheap armor piece (e.g. helms are usually quite cheap), and craft all 6 or 7 different variants of that helm for a huge chunk of crafting + Discovery XP.
also some fine mats are really cheap compared to others, so you can just buy them in bulk to breeze past some crafting thresholds while still getting experience for crafting weapon mods.
Besides discoveries, some products make money. Analyze the TP entries to figure out which ones will make you money, and craft up on those. (And it’s not always the most expensive stuff. Sometimes the fine materials needed for something are very inexpensive, so the ‘less expensive’ variant of (for example) an axe will make you a profit while the more expensive one will not.
