How to gain gold with craft?
Its a money sink unless you get lucky with the TP prices. The only way you can “earn” money by crafting is getting the raw materials yourself and sell what you craft. Such as farming orichalcum and making blades/hilts/whatever. If you got like 5 characters, you make maybe ~6-8g for a couple of hours work. You may earn something with the more expensive weapons (30-100g+), but this assumes someone actually buy them.
Cooking is very profitable. You must do a lot of research beforehand, but once you have finished researching, you can easily stockpile materials until you can craft a decent portion of them, then sell them for profit. Again, you must do your research beforehand to find out what is profitable and what isn’t, and also finding profit margins. There are many recipes which I’ve thought about doing, but have less than a 0.5% return, offering mere coppers for the price of golds (and not even guaranteed).
Remember, any sale you try to make is not guaranteed, so don’t go all in when profiting off of anything. It’s better to spread around your resources. If I could gurantee I make 10c off of a sale that that’s 50s, then I would use that in addition to my other sources of income, I wouldn’t rely on that as my only source of income.

Ok, but, i don’t know anything about eocnomy and all this stuff, also, i don’t wanna read about economy/market/ all this Wallstreet stuff, i just wanna play the game. Do i need to understand economy to make a profit in the TP?

No, you just need to research your own specific recipes.
Aka: I find something that sells for 10s.
The total ingredients cost anywhere from 6-12s depending on which ones I buy, and which ones I skip (and buy what THEY become). From there, if I properly purchase, it’ll be 6s to make 10s, but then I have to apply the 15% trading post tax, which makes the projected outcome of 10s become 8.5s, so I make 2.5s per sale.

Short answer : yes
(Unless you want to end up with multiple 250 stacks of an item that won’t sale)

I don’t think you’d make more money than simply selling the raw materials by themselves.
That’s what many “crafters” don’t realize. There’s one player in our guild who crafts stuff and sells it while saying “the mats didn’t cost me anything, I farmed them…”. While technically accurate, he’s missing out on lost profits from just selling the mats instead.
Yes, you CAN make money crafting. In less than two months I have made hundreds of gold in profit, and I currently have about 400 gold in items for sale on the market. You have to understand the true cost of what your selling and watch for opportunities where supply is not meeting demand. If you get to greedy, you will be undercut, and you may have to re-list which will eat into your profit, or let items sit committing your funds which could be put to better use elsewhere.
What I truly do not understand is people selling crafted materials at a net loss. (I am talking exotics here, not crafting leveling by products) I do understand a clearance sale where you just want to get your money out of a dead market, but why take the time to craft something and not sell it at a reasonable price where you can make some money?

There is no such thing as “craft this thing and you will always make money”.
Take for example item A make a profit of 30 silver. I tell you to make item A, you can quickly be undercut by a person mass produce the same item.
You really have to watch the market yourself, since it change often.
And asking people on forum what to craft don’t help. I’ve seen it before, people post on what item to craft or mystic forge. And within an hour everyone saw the post craft it, undercut each other and therre is no profit.
For instance, at a moment I was crafting and selling silver doubloons. They were selling between 35 and 40s each and I was making profit. I had 1 bank tab full of nuggets. Then the fever for doubloons came and the price rose up to 80-90s each, while the nuggets price stayed the same. I crafted all my bank tab into doubloons and made a good profit selling them. When I wanted to buy new nuggets again, I saw that the price had become insane because the recipe had leaked in a visible topic on this forum at that moment. I stopped this line of production and went on to something else.

The crafted goods market is VERY VOLATILE.
Profit margins can change very rapidly, which is why anyone that is interested in not bending you over the barrel can give anything other than vague tips.
No matter which craft you use, in order to make a profit over just selling the base mats, you are going to have to research the crafting costs in order to set your prices competitively to sell before you get undercut.
Again, no one can give you anything more definite because the market changes from hour to hour or even faster. It’s not because we want you to be stumbling along blindly, it simply because crafting for profit requires personal observation on your part no matter what.
is it just me, or is the TP collecting the listing fee twice (from ur gold stores and from the sale of the item u sold)..?
very difficult, if not impossible. and dude watch your attitude, people are trying to help
You dont lol. Whats with these questions.
The Margin is VERY SMALL … the same level of expertise & attention to {{details in research and Market utilization}} applied purely to Flipping instead of Crafting will always net a much larger Margin. Therefore crafting for profit is really only something those of us who hate speculation ever attempt. I made a small guide on it here somewhere …maybe on Guru?… but I forgot where now b/c it was over 7 months ago and is probably way out of date by now
Infact most of the time, I find it a lot easier (mentally) to just gather/supply a Raw material instead that’s overvalued … this has definitely been the case with certain herbs and T2/T4 mats that seem to have a much tight level range in zones that most people don’t spend much time in. Guesting has made it very easy to “get around” the arbitrary limitations Anet originally put on “gathering” these very poorly designed Nodes & Mob locations

Yes and no. You are right that there are two fees. 5% listing fee up front and 10% once the item is sold.
you can make money crating if you spend the time to learn the system, but from what you are saying I think you’d be better off farming T2 and T3 crafting components and seeling them outright…
You can make a lot of money just farming T2 and T3 crafting components.
That being said I have made over 200 gold crafting just crafting and selling but I’ve been playing since Beta/Launch….
One time they had a game patch and rares were dropping so the market prices dropped and I lost over 40 gold that day because I didn’t play that day and I had bought things at a certain price and the price dropped so I was screwed and had to sell them for a loss…
I personally think Cook and Jewler are the best $$ potential because everyone uses food and jewelry … but any crafting profession can make money.
I will tell you you have to deal with rares and exotics to make money it seems from my perspective. Rares have a bigger % markup from what I see.
Focus on making Rares if you do go crafting… and always multiply your sale price by .85 and make sure that is > cost of materials and you’ll know how much profit you make per item.
Check out my guide if you want to know the answer.

Any craft can be profitable.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
If you don’t want to do the research on what will sell yourself, stick to selling materials….it’s much less of a hassle (but obviously does not help your crafting at all).
Crafting is only really useful to a single character during the journey to LVL 80….
Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
I’ve made OK money with armorsmithing. Weaponsmithing not so much; per item the money made is greater, but it requires far more Orichalchum.
I’m actually kicking myself for not just buying 250 bars of it during the height of the southsun event, when it was down to like 1 silver per due to all the people farming that area.
if you don’t know about TP , here’s a good website to learn to watch the trend:

i usually farm gold while waiting my ordered item and listing item with some sites.
and yes , consumable item has very high resell value , especially event only items.
