I took leatherworking and huntsman on lvl 10, and this is when and I crafted all sorts of things, via discovery, however, now I’m lvl 54, and I need to go back to the lvl 20 zones to collect tier 2 crafting materials.

Since I have 100% completion in those zones, I just run around killing everything I see trying to get the mats that I need. I don’t even want to use TP, it cost about 1s to get the single material that I need, so that’s out of the question.

My question is, how to gather materials and craft properly so you can avoid backtracking and grinding for materials in zones that you’ve completed in order to level up your crafting?

From what I have seen you can’t unless you sell the other materials you don’t need (in your case cooking ingreds are an example) and buying those which you do need. From my experiance with crafting so far it seems it’s only good for supplying alt chars with gears…….

For armour/weapons to use yourself it’s probably best to work on karma for the cultural weapons and have enough cash at 35 for the armours and then the others afterwards or look for gold/green items on the trading Post because you can get many for very cheap at the moment.

Anyhow good luck!

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

You picked a particularly difficult combo since both of your crafting skills use a lot of the same materials. For example, both use leather and both use all of the same trophies (claws, blood, totems, etc.). If you choose to continue with those two skills then you will have a more difficult than normal road ahead.

Some things to consider…

— Sell many materials you gather that you don’t need. As far as I know those two skills do not use any precious metals (silver, gold, etc.), so sell those and use the profit to buy other mats that you need.

— Maybe choose a different combo, keep one of those two but add in either Chef or Jewelcrafting. Chef and JC do not have any material overlap with the other 6 crafting skills, making for an easier time leveling up.

I had the exact same problem when I chose to level up Tailoring and Artificer on my Elementalist. Ultimately I chose to focus on Artificer alone and did not try to level up Tailoring until after I reached level 80.

Thanks for advice, but I would really like to continue using these professions, so I’ll probably just focus on one until I hit the max level.

But drop rates should be nerfed a bit I guess, since I’m getting tired of grinding.

I also do leatherworking and huntsman, and what everyone is saying about focusing is dead on. I focused on leatherworking first, got it to 400 and now im doing the huntsman.

Just one simple thing to remember is not to sell ANY tier drops you get for any reason or you will regret it. I thought I had plenty of tier 3 items so I sold some to make a quick buck and when I got done and started with huntsman I had to spend a lot of time and money when I got to that tier of crafting.

It’s not easy but being able to make your own armor AND weps for your class is really nice.

It’s kinda annoying that you cannot level both professions at the same time as you level up, without grinding for materials or spending fortune on TP.
