I do not know why, but I completely disregarded my professions. I took Armorsmithing and Weaponsmithing but as I leveled I either completely forgot or I couldn’t bother about them. I’m level 73 now and it is quite obvious I screwed myself over big time. Is there any way I can somehow catch up without buying tons and tons and tons of copper/iron to make stuff that will level me up since the amounts I need are very costly (and going around 1-15/15-25 areas is sort of extremely boring if I’m just mining)?

In short, you’re kittened. My advice? Do the required mining in a newbie area you haven’t been to before. It is still painful, don’t get me wrong, but you get to further your exploration achievements, see more of the world, and just get a general change of scenery. Leveling the first time, I had to do the sylvari and human areas both just to do Jewelcrafting and Armorsmith (and I bought some materials on the TP)

The only way to level up a craft is to have the materials required for the craft you want to level up.

I assume you banked all the low level drops (blood, scales etc?) If so I’d personally suggest you go round the low level zones collecting resources and using a low end salvage kit on weapon and armour drops. It wont take ‘that’ long to catch up.

You’ve ‘got’ to either collect the bits you need through play, or buy them. The only other way would be to ask your guild mates. Unless of course there is a mystic forge recipe to create low level materials from high level materials.

Well, the only unexplored 1-15 I have is Metrica Province. I guess I will finish it, with a bit of luck it will give me copper as one of the reward mats for completion too. And might as well ask guild mates that have it and don’t need it, yeah. Thanks for the advice.

You could also start an alt character and farm up the mats by playing that.

you can start an alt and not pick professions and just use the mats they get naturally while leveling, it also does wonders for your finances

I bet you dont have 100% map completion. Go to area’s you’ve not been to try get the 100% map completions while gathering or the other way around ^^. This gives you a title if i’m not mistaken and rewards of 100% completion per map and recourses.

It is more cost-effective to just buy gear you can wear, because crafting your own gear is more expensive than buying the gear you could make.

Wow. Didn’t expect such a thread. Is this trolling? Your are leveling 2 of the easier professions and telling us you don’t want to mine and want it made easier for you when all the others had to mine?

Seriously. Be happy that you are able to mine… Leatherworkers and Tailors have it much harder because they need to rely on random drops and the stuff there is more expensive. If you are at 80 you get in a low level zone a mix of 70-80 level items and items on the low level as drop. Even harder to farm salvageable stuff and the salvage only items are random and the bags are containing more and more cooking stuff since they changed it.

I have learned that going to ‘newbie’ areas does feel tedious on my higher level character. Creating an alt, even though I’ve always been a one character guy, really made it a fun experience since the combat doesn’t feel dull compared to my higher level character, and loot such as resources and dyes can be used by my higher level character. It’s a win win win situation.

First of all, I have no clue why are you upset about this. I’m sorry, maybe I shouldnt’ve asked a simple question. How dare I.

Second, I’m not “not wanting to mine”, it just seems too boring when I can’t do it while I’m finishing a zone except in one unexplored zone that will not nearly sate the amount of ores I will need. I am only asking people to recommend other ways I might not have thought of, not whining about how difficult gathering materials for my professions might be. I AM farming copper on my alts where I can actually do it, when I feel like playing them, and I will go to the lower level areas if I find no better ways, but I already have.

At this point you may get more mileage out of staying in the higher-level zones to work on farming up Karma or high-level materials, make money at the increased rate that those zones provide, and using that money to buy the lower-level materials.

You should, however, go back and get the zone completions unless you plan to see the world with your other characters. You will naturally pick up materials and have the opportunity to see new dynamics events and lore. You can also use the money gained to buy the materials you need to level your crafting.

Overall it’s not as bad as you would think. If you invest some money and time in it you can get both professions to 400 within a few weeks of reasonably playtime.
