Today I noticed that ascended jewellery can be bought with laurels.

Now, I’m wondering… What use does the skill have if we can buy the top tier with laurels?
Is it just so we can make cheaper and slightly worse versions?

Anyone? Is it really worth making your own jewels?

Laurels are valuable because they are time-gated.

Jewelcrafting is a good alternative if you want to settle for exotic jewellery and want to save your laurels.

Ascended Jewel Crafting will likely hit in the following months, and the upside will probably that all other stat combos will be available to use. Until then however, yeah, the FotM and Laurel Vendors are your only sources (trinkets come from Guild Commendation Vendors as well, but I imagine earrings will be included in the Ascended Jewel Crafting). Since I primarily use Sentinel stat gear, I’m waiting for the craftables and exotics will do until then.

Just remember that crafting ascended weapons is also time-gated and it’s save to assume that that will hold true for armor and jewelery. It does not matter which time-gated resource (crafting cooldowns or laurels in that case) you use, imo.

That said, I’m still hating time-gated equip.

It is probably easier to get that 30 Laurels than the stuff for an Ascended Amulet, I would bet by the time you have 2 Ascended Rings and 2 Ascended Earrings, you will have accumulated 30 more Laurels if you do dailys at all regularly and make some effort for monthlies.
