Man that was the most boring procedure i’ve ever had the pleasure of doing…

Seriously would it kill Anet to add a few new weapon skins as you progress, you know the same skins with different colors went out with sega right?

1. it makes the items absolutely useless to sell as no one wants them
2. its no fun at all making the same thing with different colors for 400 levels…

Yes you get a few random ugly yellow items that no one really wants…

Please Arena net fix the weapon skins for All crafting so its actually fun to make stuff and sell stuff…

Artificing is worse I think… soft wood being a particularly sticky point… to give you an example.. i think its 40 softwood logs per staff. That is freaking insane for such a low level item. X.x

The others arn’t quite that bad thankfully, but still, what a kitten.

Weapon crafting is pretty terrible. I’m still trying to figure how to squeeze past 50 in Weaponsmith and Huntsman without converting my gold into vendor trash. If that’s how it is all the way to 400, I’ll just stop here until Anet fixes it.

Crafting is one way to get best stats on weapons in the game, however, that all you get, best stats. If you want different skins you will have to obtain them elsewhere.

Seeing that 100 000s of people have max stats in all crafting skills there is little to no point in having new and better skins added to crafting. Because the moment the skins is released everyone will have one and the trade post would be flooded with the items in less than a day.

The fact that you can’t make money on items is that you gain overall experience from crafting. Thus the cost of materials is worth more than the items themselves, because you also pay for the experience in the price of the materials used for crafting. There is a few items here and there in crafting you can make money on. Its not easy to find these items so few know which items that actually bring some profit.

The only use crafting have at this point is to create a legendary weapon.

Use the ‘Discovery Pane’ as often as you can, rather than craft the same item over an over – you get more XP for creating new items.

Also when you refine, refine a large bunch at the same time – for some reason I tend to get more bonus XP when doing this.

Personally there is always room for new looking stuff, i have 400 levels of the same item, newer looks i could use personally on lower alts and myself or other new players would buy them if they looked a little better, not everyone crafts, some just buy their weapons on the Trading Post.

If the crafting equips had a little move love added to them by Anet i’m pretty sure people would want to craft more or actually use them, each item you craft before the item is made looked great then the finished item was a generic piece (Again!)..i’m not asking for Legendaries just a bit of Variation..

Very sloppy Anet and feels like you guys added crafting as an after thought..

hmm to be fair, i do only craft to transmutate the stats to a skin that i so desire. but that’s a large portion of this game, getting the stats from one place, and then transmuting to another skin.

i didn’t mind crafting so much, but i kind of did speed crafting rather. more or less in one-two goes. not very profitable but i’m okay with that. i like being able to craft my own stuff. for weaponsmith, i also got some destroyer weapons, as well as corrupted weapons which i crafted for myself too : ))

I’ve leveled all 3 weapon crafts and all 3 armor crafts to 400, making money with all 6. It’s not simple and straightforward, so you may want to farm money and instead buy your way up. I like figuring out profit/loss and watching markets, so it was fun for me.

Here’s how:
1. Craft up to the next rare recipe level, at lowest cost.
2. Buy rare recipes with karma
3. Figure out the break-even costs for each rare recipe. You will have to estimate your materials costs.
4. Watch the markets, looking for profitable situations, and make a couple of those items to sell. Price carefully.

Remember, you are in economic competition with every other player who’s crafting up or trying to make profits. You won’t profit if you don’t work as hard as the competition!. This is (most of the time) an efficient market, so anything profitable will get made until the demand is met and profit disappears (basic economics). You will have to be nimble to make money.

General tips:
- buy your materials off the TP. Use offers when doing so, just buying at the asking prices makes you non-competitive. Put up an offer, and be patient. It may take a while to fill for rarely-offered items. And remember, cancelling and re-pricing an offer costs you nothing! So adjust your offers as the market changes.
– buy the intermediate pieces rather than making them, when you can buy them for less than what it would cost you to manufacture them. Use the offer prices to figure this out, not selling prices.
- Remember to allow for the 15% TP taxes when figuring out profitability. You have to price 15% over your materials costs to actually make any money.
- Don’t watch prices on internet sites outside the game. They are updated somewhat slowly, and are watched by most of your competition. You need to hop in the market and sell before they realize there’s a profit to be made, so you need to directly watch the markets.

Some of the players like doing this kind of thing. This part of the game is for us. If it’s not your thing, leave it alone. Not everyone likes jumping puzzles, but they’re there for the part of the gaming citizenry that does.

To the person above i don’t think you understood my post, i know i can make money with these Weapon smithing Rares (not sure why they are pretty ugly).

But my issue was the tedium in the actual getting to 400, its not fun its not profitable (bar the odd rares you said) and its generic ugly skins all the way through the ranks made me think this Crafting was an after thought, Anet didn’t put any thought into the weapon skins for crafting at all..

I have not leveled another weapon crafting since, what is the point when 99% of the stuff no one wants and will not use, to me all these weapon crafts need more skins added appropriate to the levels like Armor crafts get.

To actually make them fun to do..I like Crafting i do not like tedious things that look terrible that wasted my effort..

The exotic Pearl weapon skins are ugly as sin too. I made my greatsword and rushed to transmute to my Felblade skin. I did find a site that helped to level up through the crafting professions easier and cheaper. Google was my friend

There is no reason to make a single staff leveling Artificer to 400.
